  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I can say "who cares if she has talent" because not everyone listens to music because the musicians are talented. I would not say that Britney Spears was especially talented musically, but she doesn't have to be for people to like her apparently, because they still buy her records and go to her shows. The thing is, I stop worrying most of the time about who "deserves" success. How do you determine who deserves success? Most of the bands I like are not accessible enough to the mainstream to be very successful, even though I might think that they "deserve" it. I don't worry about it though; I don't care if the band I like gets amazing success. They don't need that to be good in my eyes.

seeing as how christianity is so POPULAR in hollywood and the mainstream music world (being sarcastic), responding to an altar call or becoming a born-again christian would get her good publicity....... yeah right.

So many posts are trivial. What is the main reason that everyone hates Britney Spears? Is it because she is attractive? Because she doesn't play an instrument? Because the songs she sings are catchy? Because she is successful?
I dislike almost all pop music equally. Sometimes there's a catchy tune, but then the lyrics are as un-Christian as you can get. There are just not many pop songs that I enjoy listening to. It's all background noise for me.

My friend's dad calls Britney "the temple prostitute."

I think she has sold her soul for fame and money.

I wonder if she can even play an instrument, or writes any songs.

She is degrading to music, degrading to women in general, and is contributing to the moral breakdown of society.

She sells her body. She is a prostitute in my opinion.

I feel sorry for her.

I wish we could go back to the old days when pop music was actually good....

Nowadays, pop music is contributing to dumbing down America, in the musical aspect.

I agree!

I don't understand why pop music sux so much today, I think people aren't being creative enough.

Just to quote Bono "the pop music of today is so sweet, i feel my teeth rotting every time i listen to it" :D

I think people judging her like this is really unfair. Yeah, she doesn't wear a lot of clothes sometimes... but she's not a horrible person.

I think this church thing seems sincere to me... if Britney has found God, I'm happy for her. I'm not gonna bash her for it. Geez.

If she publicly repented, and started going to Bible College... you all would still think she was a horrible, awful, disgrace.

None of you are any better than she is - we're all human.

Can you guys still not see that you have different standards of music than those that listen to Britney Spears? Can you not also see that your standards aren't any better than anyone else's?

I used to look at things that way, too. My music taste is better than everybody else's because I knew more about it, or because I analyzed it more, etc. It felt good to be able to say I knew more than someone else, and had better taste than someone else (NOTE: I'm not saying any of you are thinking this way, just stating my experience with it.) Then I realized that music is completely subjective; people listen to music for different reasons. If you want to listen closely and analyze music (as I do sometimes) you won't find much in Britney's music. But there are people who don't want this in music, and maybe they find other things they enjoy in her music. And I say, you have fun listening to your music, and I'll enjoy mine.

And I leave it at that.

You know, I was pretty harsh. I was in a bad mood - I do feel better now -
It is ironic because today at Mass, the priest preached on Luke 6:27-42. I need to follow Our Lord's instructions better.

I still will never like her music, and I do not like what she (and pop music in general) is doing to American music scene - and I HATE the effects her lyrics and videos have on little kids, making them think that we are on this planet solely to have sex as much as possible. Pop songs like Britneys are spreading very very bad messages to the youth of society - and she is being rewarded by society for it. With this sort of message going out to kids, we can expect in the future more broken homes, more abortions, more divorces, more single parent homes, more men addicted to pornography....

That is where my anger stems from.

I really hope she has become a Christian - maybe she can start singing about it.

Note to all: ^^ This is the only worthwhile "bashing" that can be done about Britney Spears' music. I too agree that the message she is promoting is awful.

I agree with you! it's quite sad the effects she has had on children and society. it's had a negative impact, It's normal to be angry at that! I posted an article on this thread how she went to church. hopefully it was geniune heart change.

Listen to "I Don't Want You Back" by Eamon...you don't get any sweeter than that. :D

Isn't U2 a pop band? If you are the "biggest" band in the world and your guitarist is a minimalist :)P ) you certainly can't be rock! ;)

Talent isn't everything Cincy Warrior, Yngwie Malmsteem might be the greatest guitarist alive, but he couldn't record a popular song to save his life. When all is said and done, melody is the life of a song. Period.
