I have been looking to see if I could find the book of the Amish people I encountered when I went to visit them in PA. Much to what will be the delight of everybody who reads this book, I have found that book. It is a very intriguing and very interesting book which answers a lot of misconceptions about the Amish and the Mennonite people. Hope you all enjoy it! And its on Amazon too!

Amazon.com: 20 Most Asked Questions About the Amish & Mennonites (People's Place Book, No 1) (9781561481859): Merle Good: Books

Take a look and see how you all like it.

I would also recommend the book "Amish Grace," which centers a lot around the Amish at Nickel Mines, PA - which is right next to Lancaster... Very good book.

This was a truly amazing book, I would recommend it to anyone! It was such a quick read, and gave a huge insight into the culture of the Amish.

I have yet to read the book, though I've seen the movie (Amish Grace). Thankfully, I've heard that the book is better.

If I might be so bold as to recommend the book by Bernd G. Langin Plain And Amish (An Alternative to Modern Pessimisim). Mr. Langin actually spent time with the Amish of several states and orders over several years.

Oops, that's two posts in the same day.:o Gosh, I'm going to have to go back to lurking sometime.:sorry:

The Peoples Place series is very good, and the pictures ad to the joy of the read. Berd's book is awesome because of the blend of Amish life & purposeful Christian living. The thesis on the pain english culture creates through industrialization, impersonalization, & self grabed me. Hostetler did one of the first complete studies, now in second printing.

Interesting you guys are giving me a ton of reading material that I'm going to have to check out sometime myself :). Blessings to all whom gave serious posts to this issue, and were actually respectful to the kind group of Amish people in the world today.

The People's Place a cool place to visit too. It's in Intercourse PA in Lancaster County...been there loads of times and would load up on books in my mennonite days.

I have "Amish Grace" but have not yet read it. I've read the "20 Most Asked Questions...." but it's been a few years back.

A good fiction Amish read is "Eyes at the Window" by Evie Yoder Miller. It's not a romance novel. It's a mystery about the murder of an Amish infant and is supposed to be partly based on Amish folklore.
