Is it THAT important that Jay Smith has said that the bible is not the "Word of God" in his outreach to muslims where he uses sourcing to discredit the Koran? Presumably he does this so that the polemic doesn't get reversed although he insists the support for the text for the bible is much stronger that for the currently accepted Koran.
For him Jesus is the only Word of God.
Should we fight over our outward formulation of what we believe about the Bible?

I reached some conclusions about the bible sometime around twenty or so years ago. I never really had a concise way of describing it until I read this:

"It is the faith of the Orthodox Church that the Bible, as the divinely-inspired Word of God in the words of men, contains no formal errors or inner contradictions concerning the relationship between God and the world. There may be incidental inaccuracies of a non-essential character in the Bible. But the eternal spiritual and doctrinal message of God, presented in the Bible in many different ways, remains perfectly consistent, authentic, and true."

The Orthodox Faith - Volume I - Doctrine and Scripture - The Bible - Word of God

If you attempt to argue any other position you'll find yourself on the losing side. If you argue it too much you'll go the way of Bart Ehrman, a man who had faith in the bible and eventually lost it.

Islam is a separate matter and calls for a different argument altogether.

Hello @hopeforhappiness, w/o the “word” of God/the Bible, how would any of us know who the “Word” of God is, what He said, what He did, what He expects of us, and/or what was said about Him by others (OT/NT)?

Also, if the “word” of God (the Bible) has no value, then why did the Lord Jesus use it so often (to teach/debate and minister to others), saying over and over and over again, “it is written”, as evidence that what He was saying was true?

Does Muslim evangelist Jay Smith have a website that we could look at, because the articles that I've found online so far by/about Jay Smith do not bear out your opening statement, that "he has said that the Bible is NOT the word of God", and/or that "for him Jesus is the only Word of God"

Quite the opposite seems to be true, in point of fact.

Thanks!

Muslims believe that the Quran is the Word of God.

Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the Word of God.

The Word of God is not a written book that has a beginning and an end. The Word of God is eternal without beginning or end, just like God Himself.

The Holy Book contains words from God. It does not contain THE Word of God. He cannot be contained in anything, let alone a book.

Can you provide a link to this quote.

Yes this is what Jay Smith was saying.. The Koran is said to be eternal just like God himself and Jay makes much of this, arguing that it's shirk...
