  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Then if you understood the sciences at all you would have to agree that a literal interpretation of Genesis is bad doctrine.

Here is another question: When read literally the Bible only supports a Flat Earth. It implies that the world is flat in word and deed. Is it good doctrine to say that the Earth is flat?

Not "from Christianity". Christians were strongly involved in its development. Again, you are making a rather large logical error here.

It came from the Biblical worldview of Christianity--Creator--creation/subject--object.

Why clumsy...?

*Is clumsy better than awkward...I hope so...
Now that was kinda funny. If my ex wife ever found any humor in my attempts at wit, she certainly didn't display it. We are wired differently, some are more serious, some more lighthearted. Or maybe I, just ain't funny at all. I've received laughter and blank expressions. Some have even taken offense, poor creatures. That statement just may stir up resentment instead of a chuckle.

Christianity may have made it more likely to arise than other religions, but again that does not mean that it "came from Christianity". Do you claim that gun powder came from Buddhism?

The Bible upholds the logical worldview of what is actually objectively there. Eastern religions don't, but being as we really are creatures in an actual objective space-time continuum, gun powder arose in spite of Buddhism. I personally do not like guns.

Where do you get that from? I really do not see that.

By the way, Christianity has a bit of history opposing the sciences. Though to be fair there was some support as well. It is just as valid to say that scientific advances occurred in spite of Christianity as your claim about gun power arose in spite of Buddhism. By the way, gunpowder was originally a medicine.

So you see how there is a spectrum to these things. This is why I say that Darwinism and/or evolutionary theory arose from Christianity.

Christianity isn't monolithic, which kind of shows that there is great error in it. This is how evolution could stem out of it.

I am sorry, but it is an error to say that the theory of evolution arose from Christianity. Ironically you have committed a genetic fallacy:

Your logical fallacy is genetic

Would you say that it would've arose if Christianity never existed?
It is very likely. It has roots in various cultures, Greek, Muslim, Indian etc.. It is simply a rational method for solving problems. People can reason rationally even if they do have religious beliefs.

The elements of the scientific mechanism pre-date Christianity. They go back to early practitioners of what might retroactively be called science (like Archemedes, Herophilos, and Galen [OK Galen lived when Christianity was a very minor sect], not to mention the various describers of the natural world that cataloged stars, plants, etc. and the mathematical approach to the motion of the stars and planets, and of course early Indian and Chinese efforts.) The full coalescence of a modern looking scientific method only occurs after the ancient writings of western civ reenter Europe from the Islamic world.

You don't know Darwin's background...or the history of Western Civilization?!

*It didn't come from the east...

Darwin did study for the clergy. I believe he found it uninteresting. (I also found the notion uninteresting, to the chagrin of some of my female relatives.)

You do know that Western Civilization predates Christianity by at least a half millennium, right? Western civilization had existed for about a full millennium before Christianity was the dominant religion with in it.

Which kind of backs up my point.

Exactly. This backs up my earlier point. The Bible is similar and may be studied with the rational mind. This is how we can separate reality from Darwin's fanciful religious beliefs.
