  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

NiemandheißtBoshaftigkeit listed something that isn't Rammstein! I can't believe it.

My favorite obscue underground artist is Bjorn Lynne. It's kind of a techno-ambient-progressive-easy listening type thing. Really cool stuff. Bjorn has a much of his mp3s on his website for free download. Check it out here: http://www.lynnemusic.com/

Also, if any of you haven't listened to Stereolab......then check them out.

Joy Division - Closer: The original post-punk band. This, their second, and unfortunately final album, is a perfect representation of what their music was about. Dark, moody, desperate, and heavy. Bass-driven, lots of amazing studio effects, with Ian Curtis' brooding voice matching the dark sound. A truly underrated band.

As a coda: After Curtis committed suicide by hanging, Joy Division stayed together, adding a female member on keyboards (Gillian something,) and forming a band some of you might recognize instead: New Order.

Here's a couple more because now this thread as me thinking. :)

American Music Club - Everclear: These guys were an 80s band out of San Francisco who never sold many records, never played to big crowds, and never got a lot of recognition. This is really their finest album, although they have several excellent ones. Rolling Stone actually mentioned this album as one of the best albums of 1991 and AMC signed a major label deal the next year, but the two albums they released on a major label (I forget which one), bombed and the band broke up in 1995. The album is a beautiful mix of ambient and rock. The music is sparse, giving it a very atmospheric sound. Each note is carefully chosen. The lyrics depressing (one critic said they made the Smiths sound happy), and drenched in meaning. Mark Eitzer, the lead singer and songwriter, was one of the first to write about the AIDS epidemic and two songs on this album, "Rise" and "Sick of Food" give someone an inside look into what AIDS is like for people on both sides, those suffering, and those watching someone suffer. An overall excellent album.

Llama - Close to the Silence - Llama were an acoustic rock jam band out of Nasvhille, Tennesse. This was their debut album and is really their only album (they released an EP after this and have since broken up). That being said, it's an amazing album. Very light, laid back feel, perfect for the coming warm weather. Lots of acoustic guitars, jammy sounding songs, and fun lyrics. Much happier than the first two bands I've mentioned. This is probably one of my top five or ten favorite albums of all time. A simple, easygoing, album, perfect for driving in the summer with the windows down, or sprawling out on the beach.

ok, so I've sorta mentioned this in other threads, but I can't believe that noone has mentioned My Bloody Valentine, Loveless. I personally think it's an amazing album.
I concur! I haven't listened to any MBV in a while but Loveless and Isn't Anything are both excellent albums although I feel that they do are a product of their time and they maybe sound a bit dated now. But very good none the less.

cheers
Andy

I'm a bit surprised that no one has mentioned Morphine yet. Here's a couple albums off the top of my head:

Morphine-Cure for Pain
Radiohead-Kid A
Radiohead-Hail to the Thief
My Bloody Valentine-Loveless
Charles Mingus-Mingus Ah Um (this is an older jazz album, just so you don't buy it thinking it's pop music and get angry)
Cake-Motorcade of Generosity
Stevie Wonder-Innervisions
Steely Dan-Aja
Talking Heads-Remain in Light

That's all I can think of right now. I know that a couple of those are actually fairly mainstream, but most people I know haven't heard those specific albums until I introduce them. As a sidenote, I have NEVER introduced Morphine's Cure for Pain to ANYBODY that has not liked it. So buy that album, even if you have no idea yet who Morphine were.

Well, except for The Clash, London Calling, The Ramones, Rocket to Russia, White Light/White Heat, Daydream Nation, etc. etc. etc.

Nah just jokin', it's cool if you like Blink, I just wanted to have another chance to throw in some favorites of mine ;)

Agreed. Blink is awesome. There are many good bands out there but Blink tops the list. Take off your pants and jacket is by far their best album...although their new singles are pretty decent

underground:

Zwerg- Played Wits (limited to 500 copies)

Genre: Synth-pop/Electronica
It kinda sounds like Joy Electric meets Ben Folds Five. It's preformed by one person Jason Betts from Moncton New Brunswick Canada. Zwerg is best discribed as eccentric, restful at times and explosive at others. very danceable stuff. Jason is a Christian, infact I found the link on a Chrisitan EMB music site. sorry, I'm no good at writing music reviews...so heres a song

YES! What a great album! They were such an amazing punk band. It breaks my heart that so many of my friends listen to what's "punk" these days, while having no knowledge of bands like The Clash and The Ramones.

Cool, another Clash fan. The Clash will probably always be my favorite punk band. Their first album is very underrated IMO, it gets no credit compared to London Calling, which is inferior to The Clash if you ask me.
