  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Not usually no. But that seems to be the going price for an average Beatles cd (something like Rubber Soul or St Peppers etc).
An average NEW cd price is around $15. Not too bad I Guess.

I bought Abbey Road for $10!

Wal-Mart is cheap. All the Beatles catalog is under 10 dollars--except the White Album-- I think it's 22.00

Nienor, "Black Bird" is one of my most favorite songs that the Beatles did. And the story behind it--about civil rights...even makes it even more beautiful. I agree, It's an awesome song!!!! I am gonna' buy "The White Album" next definitely.

For those of you who are just now building your Beatles collections - my advice would be to stick to the British releases. The U.S. releases were different from the British up until Sgt. Peppers. The U.S. albums were sort of thrown together in an attempt to play "catch up" once the Beatles hit it big here. The British releases are the better ones, IMO.

Definitely true; they're also (thankfully) more widely available.

Agreed.

Superdave,

I think that the White Album is perhaps the best collection of Beatles songs...if they had narrowed it down to a single disc, it could make a run at the best album of all time. I think that it is a must have.

^I think you're probably right that it needs some editing. If it was pared down to one disc, I might have to call it the best Beatles album. My attempt at picking the cream of the crop:

Dear Prudence
While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Happiness is a Warm Gun
Martha, My Dear
I'm So Tired
Blackbird
Rocky Raccoon
Why Don't We Do It in the Road?
I Will
Yer Blues
Sexy Sadie
Revolution 1

That would be a pretty good album.

Come on, you've gotta have "Yer Blues."

I dunno, I have an irrational love of the blues, so maybe it's not that great a song :)

Yeah, it's a pretty good song. I thought about adding it, but a disc can only have so much space. I'm surprised you didn't give Ringo the nod with "Don't Pass Me By". Don't you like 1960s era country? :p

Oh yeah, love the stuff. I left it off because Ringo's performance is too good to be mentioned with those other songs. He's just a step above the rest.

Hey, I actually said all that without gagging! ;)

LOL! :D I wonder what the Beatles were thinking letting him write? I assume they gave in in order to keep him from quitting. On the other hand, "Octopus's Garden" isn't that bad of a song, if you overlook the fact that it is a rip off of "Yellow Submarine"...and I know how much you like that song! :p

*i'm not being sarcastic, i really do like Ringo*

This is true, but Paul and John wrote the song for Ringo. I happen to think that the Joe Cocker version is much better, but the original is great too. I like Ringo too...I think he had a very good sound on drums: the Beatles certainly wouldn't have been the same without him. I prefer him behind the drum kit without a vocal mic though. :)

Abbey Road's the best album, IMO.

Funny you should say that, it is musically easily their best album - try "Layla and other Assorted love songs" 1970 too though.

This is my first post and I'm pleased to respond to this wonderful post.
