  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Metalblade I know it's your opinion--but what about "Hey Jude" or "Get Back" or "Something" These songs were made near the end of the Beatles carrer. I think that singlehandely these songs are masterpieces- something you don't hear every day-- and They definitely do not suck! Sorry-- I defend the Fab Four!

I personally like all stages of the Beatles carrer. I love "Day Tripper" and "Revolution"-- these are awesome just down and dirty rock songs...

I also think for ballads-- I love "Hey Jude" and "Yesterday"

But its hard for me to pen a favorite Beatles song--they are all good. And all serve an inspiration for what I write. :)

In my opinion, "Eleanor Rigby" is the best Beatles song, followed by "A Day in the Life". I just love the middle period of the Beatles. Not surprisingly, I consider "Revolver" and "Sargeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band" to be the best Beatles albums.

Their early stuff sounds a bit like a boy band to me. "Yesterday" and "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away" were the first good Beatles songs, as far as I'm concerned.

Well first of all I never said they sucked, I just said they weren't as good. There are songs from the later albums that I do enjoy, don't get me wrong there. However, the overall quality of the albums in there entirety are not as good as the first few albums.

The Beatles first few albums were thrown together in an attempt to capitalize on Beatlemania and included many covers. Their later albums are where you find the true masterpieces...from Rubber Soul on.

I grew up in the 60s. The Beatles were the first music I ever cared about. I had every song on every album memorized to the nth degree. I kept scrapbooks of everything I could find on them. Paul was "my" Beatle. I love their music dearly. There's no way I could ever pick one favorite song or even one favorite album, but I like their "middle" period the best - from Rubber Soul through Magical Mystery Tour, but "Hey Jude", "Something", "Let It Be", and the whole Abbey Road album are also great.

It's hard for later generations to understand the impact they had on music and culture in general (for good and for bad :(). There's never been another group like them. They put out so much great work in such a short time, it's unbelievable.

Humm where do I start.

I have been listening to the Beatles before I was born. Literally. When my mother was pregnante with me, my dad would put a beatles record on, and then put his big huge headphones on my mom's tummy so that I could know from early on what "good" music sounded like.
You see my father is now in his 50's and can still recall the day he first saw the beatles on the Ed Sullivan show (and he would be more then happy to tell that story to anyone) from that day on, he was hooked.
I have many awesome memories of when I was little, my dad would put on the beatles and we would dance together (I learned how to waltz at a young age to Hey Jude :D LOL). Saturday's my mother would always go out for the day to do whatever, and my dad and I would stay home and clean the house for her, and dance all day long to the beatles. It was so much fun.

Even to this day I will come home and my dad will have the beatles pumping through the stereo and he will start to dance LOL. I love it.
So needless to say, the beatles had and always will have a special place in my heart. I also dont think I would have the love for music like I do now if it wasnt for the influence the beatles had on me when I was younger.

My father has a box in the spare room full of his "beatles" stuff. Everything from teenybopper mags with them on the cover, to 2 full sets of the beatles trading cards.
My dad has shelves upon shelves of books (thanks to me... I tell yah, he is the easiest man to shop for).
He has all their works from records to cds and everything in between. When I was home at Christmas, we went to a local used record store that we both love, and stood in the beatles section and he told me stories of the albums etc. Anyway its very fun.

Now I am grown up (well kinda) and live very far away from my dad, and I still listen to, and love the beatles as much as when I was home.

Its so hard to pick a single fav album, but I am partial to Abbey Road. However Rubber Soul is a very close second.
Its hard to pick just one fav song. She came in Through the Bathroom window is a fav, along with Come TOgether, Something, Day Tripper, Eleanor Rigby. I loved Get Back, Lady madonna etc when I was younger.

While my Guitar gently weeps sends shivers up my spine. Happiness is a Warm gun, Here comes the sun.

I have even done school projects on the beatles (what a geek eh? and I wondered why I had no friends in high school LOL)
I did a speech on John Lennons death and the impact it had on society when I was in grade 9, and in grade 10, we had to take a peice of literature, or something like that and try to explain and figure out the meanings and such. With special permission from my teacher, I did Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

Anyway.... enough outta me. I'll be back to post more later :)
