One thing that might help is to get a house you can afford at this point, and not try to get into your dream home too soon. I've known more than one couple that fell apart because the cost of the home overwhelmed them. The people I bought my house from were newlyweds who had been living in the wife's home but decided they needed to get into their dream home as soon as possible after the birth of their daughter. They could have fixed up their home for much less than the down payment on their new place, but they decided they deserved their dream. About a year later, the federal bankrupcy court contacted me to make sure that I wasn't buying land contract or anything to help them hide assets because they had just filed for bankrupcy. I read their divorce in the court news section of the paper about 6 months after that. It happens a lot, so don't look at renting as wasting money--look at it as saving your marriage for now!TxAdam said:Good deal! That is just so bad... I don't believe an agent would let them do that...![]()
Aimee and I are going to start officially looking for a house sometime around Jan/Feb '05. We are still in an apartment right now, which is nice... But it is hard to know that we are throwing our money away in rent. We really want to get into a house so we can build some equity and have our "own place".![]()
Property value is SO high here in Austin though (at least for the Texas market)... It is going to take some time and effort to find the right place. We will be spending lots of time in prayer when the time comes to start looking.
