Tehom Genesis 1:2

Darkness over the face of the deep

So much debate over flat Earth, Sabbath, six day creation, young and old Earth. I think we pass right over an awesome concept here. The Deep. Waters? Yes. But more, ourselves, our existence, our lives and the mystery of it all. The abyss of God's love and mercy. We swim in it daily and there is no bottom. But there is spirit also ruach. How beautiful it all is.

No waters over the deep, the waters had its own face.

Who has plunged into Tehom?
Jonah plunged into tehom.

‭‭Jonah‬ ‭2:1‭-‬10‬ ‭
[1] Then Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the belly of the fish, [2] saying, “I called to the Lord out of my distress, and he answered me; out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and you heard my voice. [3] You cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the flood surrounded me; all your waves and your billows passed over me. [4] Then I said, ‘I am driven away from your sight; how shall I look again upon your holy temple?’ [5] The waters closed in over me; the deep surrounded me; weeds were wrapped around my head [6] at the roots of the mountains. I went down to the land whose bars closed upon me forever; yet you brought up my life from the Pit, O Lord my God. [7] As my life was ebbing away, I remembered the Lord, and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple. [8] Those who worship vain idols forsake their true loyalty. [9] But I with the voice of thanksgiving will sacrifice to you; what I have vowed I will pay. Deliverance belongs to the Lord!” [10] Then the Lord spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah out onto the dry land.

In Hebrew, the term "Tehom" is used here as well. It is a term used for an eternal deep and deadly chaotic formless ocean.

"Ocean" as metaphor for for any boundless mystery?
In the Mesopotamian mythology, there was first an ocean (i.e. the "endless deep"), which was uncreated. And from it the dry land appeared by the creation of God (i.e. God tamed the waters, the endless ocean, the leviathan).

I think it's a description of the ocean. Jonah gets thrown into the ocean. It's just that people back then didn't know how deep or how far the ocean spanned. It was boundless because they had not yet sailed it. And so it was referred to as "the deep". And by it's nature, it was mysterious. A real place described with legendary language. Just my opinion.

The deep is described as water. Why would it be a squid monster?
It was a joke. He is associated with a race of ocean-dwelling creatures called “The Deep Ones” and described in some mythos as the face of the deep.

I am not the sharpest pencil in the box, but some people amaze me.
Again, a joke, based on him being associated with the fantasy race called “The Deep Ones.”

Not a lot of HP Lovecraft readers here, apparently.

young and old Earth
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Earth’s initial creation may have occurred billions of years
before the creation of Adam. The Bible does not say how long
ago this was. Science says it could be 4.5 billion years ago.

The bible does not say much about the Age of large Reptiles [Dinos].

2 And the earth [became] without form, and void;

H1961
A primitive root (compare H1933); to exist,
that is, be or become, come to pass

Genesis 1:2 the word [was] should be translated became.
The Same word used when Lots wife [became] a pillar of salt.

Earth became [without form] and [void],

"without form" H8414
From an unused root meaning to lie waste; a desolation (of surface),
that is, desert; figuratively a worthless thing; adverbially in vain:
- confusion, empty place, without form, nothing, (thing of) nought,
vain, vanity, waste, wilderness.

"and void" H922
From an unused root (meaning to be empty); a vacuity, that is,
(superficially) an undistinguishable ruin: - emptiness, void.

God... created it [not in vain], he formed it
to be inhabited: .. Isaiah 45:18

My God is not the author of [confusion] 1 Cor 14:33
Fall of Satan event caused destruction, before the
garden event. Isaiah 14:13, 14, Ezekiel 28:17, Luke 10:18
-

"and [darkness] was" upon...

Asteroid strike would probably involve an impact winter,
blocking the radiation/light from the Sun killing plants.

- "upon the face of [the deep]."

H8415
an abyss (as a surging mass of water), especially the deep (the
main sea or the subterranean water supply): - deep (place), depth.

The earth became covered with water, most likely by an asteroid.

the Cretaceous-Paleogene (K-Pg) Extinction Event.
-

-The “Spirit of God" moved upon the face of the waters”

“You send forth Your Spirit", they are created;
And You [renew] the face of the earth.” Psalms 104:30

-In 6 days, God renewed the face of the earth
and what is above us that we see.

The sudden change in the fossil record from
the Age of Reptiles to the Age of Mammals.

-The waters

God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were [under
the firmament] from the waters which were [above the firmament]:

8 And [God called the firmament Heaven].

-The bible has 3 Heavens

The first heaven consists of [the Earth’s atmosphere].
The second heaven is the [vast space] beyond the atmosphere.

There is also a third heaven, the home of God (ii Cor. 12:1-2).
Jesus Christ passed through the first two heavens as He ascended.
to the third heaven Hebrew 4:14. John 3:13 refers to the 3rd heaven.

The bible does not say when Gods abode was made, likely before anything
physical made. God, a Spirit has existed forever, without a starting point.
We cannot really understand this concept—a fact that should humble us.

Psalm 103:19 The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens;...
"Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment:"
"But "the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee"
"To him that rideth upon the heavens of heavens, which were of old;"

- God called the firmament Heaven

Notice this is singular form, the first heaven/sky above.
The first Heaven, the Atmosphere or firmament of water/air.

It is held in place by the gravity of the earth.
It looks like a dome surrounding the whole earth.

In the atmosphere, water exists as a gas (water vapor from
evaporation), as a liquid (droplets of rain and liquid water
that coats solid particles), and as a solid (snow and ice).

How much water is in Earth's atmosphere?

- The breath of life

Water is vital for all known forms of life. Birds fly above
the earth in this open firmament of the air (Genesis 1:20).

Air is one of the most important life-supporting factors of the
environment and can be termed “the breath of life”. (Gen 7:22).
-

- God [separated the waters] which were above the firmament

The Earth's Atmospheric Layers

There is a physical boundary for man, where aerodynamics stops and astronautics
begins. "experts disagree on exactly where the atmosphere ends and space begins"

- The water [above the firmament]

The Second Heaven, the vast reaches of the universe.

Water in liquid form does not exist in space. The state
of Water in the second Heaven/universe acts different.

Water in Space: How Does Water Behave in Outer Space?

The Physics of "Space Gardens"
x

"the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place,
and let the dry land appear: ...and God called the dry land Earth;
and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas:"
