Like 5 years ago when I was 20-something, a kid called me "pappa" (= grandpa). He said something like "Look mom, grandpa is there!" pointing at me. It destroyed my day.

Aw, poor guy, sorry you had such a bad day. Kids have no real sense of age until they are older. If it makes you feel better I have an uncle who was completely grey headed by the time he was in his 30's.

Oh, good! Glad it didn't actually destroy your day. Yeah, sometimes they can make some funny associations. I think this child thinks every woman is a Mom.

You're lucky. Whenever I shave, people say I look like a teenager. I come from a very youthful looking family.

In normal situations people usually guess my age about right, so I don't think I look that old. The kid just made some random association.

It was okay; I was cool with it. I knew that Mayella meant no insult in it, and, considering the incident I once described to you all here happening to me at work just a few weeks after I had begun my job in the Dr. Pepper lab, in which Kellyn just started asking everyone in the lab when was the last time they'd gotten some, like it's the most causal conversation topic in the history of human social interaction, I had long given the impression that I was totally cool with myself still possessing my V-card, so I think Mayella knew she was on safe ground when making the off-hand joke. It was just awkward for that one moment, I guess because you never really see a quip like that coming.

The awkward moment when...
I'm out with my overly outgoing grandmother buying a new electric recliner. The warehouse worker, an attractive younger guy is explaining to me how to connect the power bar and uses the words "male to female end" to which my grandmother then decides to listen, giggle and describe to both of us how that sounds a lot like the birds and the bees. She made him blush several shades of red and I, being all too familiar with her bluntness just plopped my head into my hands. She thought she was clever and afterwards went back into the car quite content, and both of us just stood there completely speechless.
