I love N.M. Good to have you here though. Maybe someday you can come "home."

I never knew that there were people who didn't know what a swamp cooler was. I grew up in dry, dusty Big Spring.. almost everyone has a swamp cooler. Good high school trick is to put a dead fish in it. eewww!!!

Uh...gross. Lol!

eewww is right! I'm glad you didn't live in my neighborhood!

Yeah, glad I wasn't there too.

on the sign outside my daughter's high school it currently says something like "congrats to the girls v-ball team - y'all did a great job!"

Hey, that's pretty cool !

But, is it y'all, or ya'll?

I've always wondered that.

Growing up in Big Spring was so hot and dry, I am amazed that there is so much water and tall trees in the rest of the state.

Texas is amazing.. it took us almost 12 hours to get home, and Carlsbad is very close to the border..AND that was with going 120 mph down I-20 through DFW, and average of 90 mph the rest of the time. Dang thang is huge.

Really? Cool. What's that ravine or big natural "pool" called? I think it's in the Austin area. I've been wanting to go.

Yeah, I agree with that. It is an amazing state. And you're right. Texas is huge. It takes forever to drive out of it. Plenty of time to see what you'll be missing, huh ? I remember going on a roadtrip to Vegas a few years back and we started that morning and didn't get to the border of New Mexico till that afternoon.

You may be talking about Barton Springs, it is caused by a natural spring.
Lake Travis and Town Lake are actually part of the Colorado River.
The Perdenales runs through Central Texas also.

I will say, though, that officially they will say that Caddo is the only nautral lake. The rest are parts of rivers, springs, etc..

I guess it all depends on how you define natural. To me, Town Lake is natural becuase they didn't deliberately form it to create a lake. They put dams on the river, and it ended up forming lakes. Caddo was different. No dams required. When I think of "non natural" lakes, I think of playa lakes.

I love Texas. We have arid in the West, water (LOTS of water) in the east and on the south coast, we have hills in Central Texas, we have natural caverns, we have canyons, we have mountains, we have flat plains, we have forests and huge cities. You can live with snow every year, or you can live where it never snows.

Yeah, probably. Is it the one where always see a bunch of people on inner tubes? I've always wanted to go there. I didn't realize that about the lakes and all here. I really need to crack a book, don't I ?

I've been wanting a good book that talks about the topography, and mountains, and lakes, and all. I love it here too. With all of the different areas it really is unlike most states I think. I know that Joe Pool Lake is man-made. And huge too.

Thanks for sharing all of that info. It was interesting .

Really? Our new church will be built on land that is on the Plano/Allen line, just east of Central.

Oh, and Hi.

(I live in Rowlett, just south of you.)
