The Bible speaks of a three and a half year tribulation. The truth is that the Bible never speaks of a seven yearr tribulation anywhere in the Bible. It does, however speak of a forty two month period: (also, a 1,260 is mentioned in the very next verse which is also equal to three-and-a-half years)

But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months. Rev. 11:2

And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. Rev. 11:3

And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days. Rev. 12:6

Revelation 11:2 (and therefore the whole tribulation) was fullfilled in the period between the Spring of AD 66 to the summer of AD 70, a period of forty-two years when the Romans trampled over the Holy City (Jerusalem) during the Jewish War.

Now from the time of this official imperial engegament in the Jewish War (early Spring, A.D. 70) until the time of the Temple's destruction and Jerusalem's fall (earlt September. A.D. 70) is a perid right at the symbolic figure of 1260 days (or 42 months or 3 1/2 years). Indeed, counting backward from early September, A.D 70, we arrive 42 months earlier at early March--in the Spring of 67! Surely the figure cannot be dismissed as sheer historical accident. Though the time frame ndoubtedly carries with it the foreboding spiritual connotation associated with a broken seven (3 1/2 is one-half of the perfect number seven), nevertheless we are also driven to recognize the providence of God in these historical affairs. In keeping with divinely ordained symbol, in fullfillment of divinely inspired prophecy, it did, as a matther of fact take Rome 3 1/2 years to trample Israel and the city of Jerusalem totally. {Kenneth L.
