I think it's much simpler than you're making it, Senor Poe. AV only responds when he believes he has a good response to make*. Otherwise he keeps quiet and hopes no-one notices that he has nothing to back up his nonsense.

So, yes, just like a YEC.

*And like many of his beliefs, they are sadly misplaced.
