As I write this....Federal and local police are searching a town house in Subiaco (WA) for doctors who may be associated with terrorists. This really gives me the creeps. I was raised in Subiaco, my children were born in King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women in Subiaco.....it's all a little too close for comfort.....!!!! Today they arrested an Indian doctor in Brisbane.......quiet little Oz....isn't so remote and quiet anymore....!!!
How sad things are....how very, very sad !!!!

Whether you like it or not we are involved in the war. And as a dependency of the British empire had of we been called upon we would probably have had to fight anyway. Personally this is a war I would like to see won.

Um ... perhaps what you meant was that as a fellow member of the Commonwealth, the chances of Australia joining Britain in just about any war is pretty good. But Australia has been an independent nation since the Australian Constitution was enacted by both the British and Australian parliaments, the Statute of Westminster (1936) further downgraded any vestiges of empire, and the Australia Act, enacted again by both the British and Australia parliaments (1986), tidied up some further untidiness.

I think the problem with this particular war is the disconnect between deploying conventional forces to fight an ideology. The enemy is whoever our leaders say hold that ideology. So far that's not so bad in terms of identifying who to shoot at, but the downside is that intellectual debate is shut down on the basis of being seen to be sympathetic with the enemy ideology. Proper debate on such an important issue can't properly occur in that environment, and that's the big problem.

I think we'll survive. I'm not so sure that we'll be unscathed.

Well, if you identify yourself with the ideology of an enemy, surely that makes you an enemy! How could I, as a citizen of Australia, defend me and mine against you if it is deemed 'improper and PC incorrect' to lawfully object to the introduction of laws and mandates proposed by a minority under the guise of 'multiculturalsism'!!! Bah Humbug to multiculturalsism!

So Norbie, how do you suggest we remove this cause that you mention?
And while we're at it, what is this cause precisely?

Surely You aren't sugesting that because some group whose minority view you support identifies itself with some obscure agenda that the opposing majority should bend over backwards appeasing them and their agenda? Because it's anti Bush, anti Howard, anti Liberal does that automatically give it some sort of Michael Moore type legitimacy?
And do we now bow down to these silly populist demands? Just because they are some sort of
PC approved minority group whose aims somehow have aligned themselves with the lefty social engineers, whether accidently or engineered matters not, the end result is the same. Desintegration of Australia as we know it

First I like to tell you that I do not support anything you mention.
Now 'the cause' is well known: it goes back when Saddam declared war on the Royal Family in saudi Arabia, whos Son was Bin Laden. What the wanted was that the fight their own war - WITHOUT any western interference, but America had to try out their new Stealth and got into war against Bin Laden's idea of self fixing the problem in their Moslem Culture.
I do NOT support their Action and how they fight - but I believe America has created some Terrorist...
And now try to get out of it without loosing face like in Vietnam. Just my thoughts.

Don't forget most of the stuff we hear is Johnny's election fear mongering. Next he will bring back the "lets look out for Australia" tv ads... Oh wait he did that a couple of months ago...

Then he will accuse Labor for not being competent in dealing with terrorism.

Then of course we will all vote for the coalition who will in turn either give the rich more tax cuts or change more laws so employers can do whatever they like with their employees and answer to no one or something else which he is yet to reveal.

There is no terrorism in Australia, it's all scare mongering.

This lying scamming dishonest government has got to go.

IMHO.

No terrorism in Australia yet ! Don't get me wrong, I pray daily that there never will be, but I think it would be naive and foolish to put it all down to political scare mongering and just ignore it.

Just my opinion.

Now it has been revealed that Haneef has not done a number of things that the government and police claim he did. Once of the huge errors was they got the birth date of Haneef's daughter wrong. If they had the corect date then it actually makes alot more sense that he only had a one way ticket. Information was also leaked about the case and when one of Haneef's lawyers did the same the lawyer was condemned. Interesting how that lawyer hasn't had action taken against him which can happen if he acts unethically like Howard and others claimed.

This whole exercise seems to be a case of guilty until proven innocent. That view also seems to have been put forward here. We should be careful before supporting such a stance. I find we are losing more and more freedom all in the name of fighting terrorism. We should be wary.

If Dr Haneef was a terrorist, I'd be angry that they botched the investigation up so that he walked free. It now looks like he really wasn't a terrorist. In that case, I think we should still be angry that they botched the investigation up.

The government cancelling the visa as soon as he was granted bail? Doesn't sit right with me.

I'm all for being protected, but not at the cost of civil liberties going down the drain...keep one eye open for the terrorists and one for dodgy politicians. ;)
