Interesting! I had no idea California had a "non-clergy" marriage license.

Apparently, Quakers AKA Religious Society of Friends, have no ordained clergy but still have weddings. Thus, self-uniting marriage is the norm for them.

That's not how the "no religious tests" stipulation works.

Requiring actions that may violate a particular individual's religious convictions is not a "religious test."

Well, Christianity is rather broad, there are many who accept LGBT, poly relationships, no marriages, anti-marriage etc etc etc

The concept of marriage was invented by God when he made Adam and Eve, therefore all marriages are subject to the laws of God, no matter who performs them.

Edit: to be clear, I don't ascribe to this belief - it's just the argument that has been made to me. Ultimately, it doesn't have to make sense, because it's a belief, and beliefs are often irrational.

My prayer your “irrational” belief will change….In Philippians 2:10-11, "And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father". In Romans 14:11, the verse means that everyone at a judgment will willingly submit to Christ as the Lord of all.
