If the term "nation" is meant to apply to the government itself, rather than the people who make it up, then it is completely false to say that America was a religgious nation at its founding. No religious authority was invoked in its creation, and hence, the claim is patently false. It is only by reference to the religious sentiments of various founders that the notion of America as a religious nation even gets off the ground, and in that use of the term, it is definitely a demographic characteristic that is at stake.

The claim that America is or was a religious "nation" is at its heart an equival position, one using at least 2 definitions of the word, not merely one.

Come on, friend...you're making them out to sound better than they really are. "Protecting people's rights"...bah! That's what liberals want everyone to think but the plain truth is that they constantly take away personal liberties from normal Americans to ensure that small minority groups and whacked-out activists don't ever get offended throughout the duration of their lives.

Since when have we had the right to never be offended? Exactly...people need to suck it up and stop running to "mommy" (ACLU) and try to make it look like it's protecting their freedoms.

Fallacy: unsupported assertion. Cite specific evidence that this is so.

Despite what you Atheists want, there are always going to be Christian's that put up a fight against the Devil. Just because the Devil has you does't mean you should hide the Father from his children. Despite what you want, God is the King, and He will always know what you are trying to His children, alienate them! The Ten Commandments Shall REMAIN!

This isn't about a fight with some devil. This is about freedom of religion and freedom from government promotion of a religious view to the detrement of all of the other views. Note also that it's not just atheists who object to violations of the principle of separation between church and state. A lot of christians do to.

Just because the Devil has you does't mean you should hide the Father from his children. Despite what you want, God is the King, and He will always know what you are trying to His children, alienate them!

I think that you need to support your claims with facts. Please start by demostrating that a devil exists and that the god that you believe in is king.

The Ten Commandments Shall REMAIN!

You can put your 10Cs on any private property that you wish. However for justice to be served, they do not belong on government property as that amounts to the government giving preference to one religous point of view over others.

Do you believe in equal freedom of religioon for all?

...conservative Christians haven't endorsed my idea of putting the entire text of Martin Luther's Small Catechism on the walls of our courts and schools (in the mother tongue -- German, of course!).

1. English is a Germanic language, so German IS the "mother tongue".
2. Luther undertook the reformation of the Catholic Church, so Lutherans can properly be understood as Reformed Catholics.
3. Luther disposed of the idea of the Pope being the head of the Church, so Lutherans can also be understood as Protestants.
4. Since Lutherans can be understood as Catholics AND Protestants, everyone is satisfied and Luther's Small Catechism can be displayed on the walls of our courts and school (in German).

Ich denke, daß es eine große Idee ist!

(I'm trusting the moderators of this forum realize just how extremely facetious I'm being!)

Yes, I do believe in freedom of religion, in some sort, but when they assert their beliefs onto the Christian nation that we were 200 yrs. ago I will begin to assert my beliefs on them to.

And you are foolish to not believe in God or the Devil, because trust me, you will know who you are going to at the end of time.

I will fight for what I believe as long as my LORD still gives me the faith and strength to do so!

Proof that the Devil exists lies in the Atheist, Pagan and non-christian followings. Look at yourself, and I don't see how that you can deny the existence of the Devil especially. If it wasn't for God you wouldn't be here now!

Some Christian's do what we call blaspheme. And some call themselves Christians, and it is from those groups that the Anti-Christ will rise!

I hope I did not offend you in any way, have a nice day! ^_^

I say we actually enforce the 10 C's. Outlaw non Judeo-Christian religions. Force children to honor their parents even if they're child abusers. Close all stores and everything on the sabbath. Woo hoo!!

You are Atheist, yet you enforce the Ten Commanments, and Outlaw non Judeo-Christian Religions, and tell children to honor thy mother and father. Is their something I'm missing here? You're Atheist, a non christian, yet you are telling the government to outlaw non christian and jewish religions! I just don't get it ! And you even respect the Sabbath Day, are you sure you're not Christian? If you aren't you should be cause you'd make a dang good one!

The ACLU doesn't write laws so they cannot outlaw anything.

They are against the things you mention but that's it.
I'm against many of the things they stand for but that doesn't mean I can stop them from doing anything just as they can't stop me from singing Silent Night where ever I please.

You're targeting the wrong organization. I think the one you want is called the United States Judicial System. That would be a good place to start.

I think we should target both the ACLU and the US Supreme Court. The Supreme Court is so Liberal that they could not help Terry Schiavo who did nothing to hurt them. And the ACLU, they should be ashamed of their evil antics. The ACLU is trying to take God out of everything. And you're wrong Mϋzikdϋde, the ACLU has already succeeded in taking A.D. (or Anno Domini=in the year of our Lord) out of the system and replacing it with C.E. or Common Era. And well as Before Common era, is now in the system. Although I refuse to recognize this "reform" in our calendar, I still am widely opposed to it because it is the first step in the decline of morals and ethics in the U.S. and the love of God. They have also succeeded in commissioning a pause between One Nation and Under God in our Pledge, and I know because I have to repeat it everyday in school. The ACLU has sparked it's dictatorship and state religion of Atheism although the nation states that "their is Seperation of Church and State", because despite what we want, the state religion is now Atheism...............

but when they assert their beliefs onto the Christian nation that we were 200 yrs. ago I will begin to assert my beliefs on them to.

The founders set up the United States as a secular nation. It was never a christian nation in terms of the federal government. There were simply a lot of christians in the country.

Many claims, no evidence.

Actually I found that tirade pretty amusing, yet sad at the same time.

Reality check. The Supreme Court is pretty much equally split between liberals and conservatives.

Another reality check. The supreme court, as well as the lower federal courts did not intervene because the issue was a matter that belonged within the jurisdiction of the state of Florida.

And the ACLU, they should be ashamed of their evil antics. The ACLU is trying to take God out of everything.

The ACLU defends the constitutional principle of separation between church and state. I guess that you've missed all of the examples of when the ACLU has defended christians.

And you're wrong Mϋzikdϋde, the ACLU has already succeeded in taking A.D. (or Anno Domini=in the year of our Lord) out of the system and replacing it with C.E. or Common Era. And well as Before Common era, is now in the system.

I would like to see you provide evidence to support that claim. I would bet that the ACLU has had nothing to do with the change in the dating convention.

Although I refuse to recognize this "reform" in our calendar, I still am widely opposed to it because it is the first step in the decline of morals and ethics in the U.S. and the love of God.

Evidence please.

They have also succeeded in commissioning a pause between One Nation and Under God in our Pledge, and I know because I have to repeat it everyday in school.

Reality check required.

The ACLU has sparked it's dictatorship and state religion of Atheism although the nation states that "their is Seperation of Church and State", because despite what we want, the state religion is now Atheism...............

Government neutrality on questions of religion does not mean that atheism is a state religion. It means that it's not up to the government to express an opinion on what religions points of view are right or wrong. Separation between church and state it the way to provide freedom of religion for all. Whe the government is required to remain neutral on issues of religion, every one free to practice as they wish.

I have an observation. We are debating the constitutionality of a religious display (specifically the Ten Commandments) in a courtroom. The 1st Amendment makes no mention of this whatsoever. The 1st Amendment prohibits Congress (a legislative body, not a judge or a court) from passing a law (a religious symbol, display or monument is not a law).

So the question now becomes this: What law did Judge Roy Moore violate? Who's rights were infringed by the monument he had erected?
Everyone's.

I must've missed the one earlier. Read the pledge, the pause is called a comma. In the english language, it denotes a pause. Not that I say the pledge anyway anymore.
