  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi everyone,
Technology, there is a lot of good and bad technology people use and rely on day to day, and my question here is, since Satan travels through the air and was cast down as lightening from heaven, my question is, who`s technology are we really using in the world? and did God intend for us to use it, or is it the results of man`s pride striving to be like God?, but good things have come from out of using technology. or is it just of the World which Christians should not take to much interest in. but advances in medical and peoples welfare is evident in the technology we use and numerous other technologies such as TV, car`s, planes etc.
Then this could also be God using what he knows to be evil, but using it for is good purpose?
let me know what you all think, because I find this idea an interesting concept of Gods working Glory in the World, and is the bad technology evidently Satan trying to use what God as given to man, being corrupted by Satan.? when we invent technology that corrupts or is used in a bad way, notice I did not say Create, because only God has the power to create, we just invent and make stuff from the materials in the world God created, which makes our lives easier. God Bless

Bible predicted the invention of telephone technology:

Job 38:15 predicted how people would communicate in the future: “Do you send the lightning bolts on their way? Do they report to you, ‘Here we are’?” [Job 38:35]. When the Bible was written, the word “electricity” did not exist, obviously, and “lightning” referred to raw electric power from nature. Several millenniums later, scientists would be able to harness electricity for use in lightings, telephones and many other ways that we see today. Now, we are indeed using electric power to speak and send messages over telephones, radios, computers, satellites and communication equipment. In Job’s time, when lighting was provided by fire, no one would dream of using electricity, let alone run away from streaks of lightning. And the telephone was invented more than two millenniums later in 1876. Yet the Bible alluded to it well ahead of time. Of course, Job did not know about electric charges, and he would not be thinking about telephones and sophisticated instruments. However, inspired by God, he spoke about a possibility that was way beyond his time. Today, satellites send messages across the galaxy and spacecrafts transmit images from Mars back to earth. People use mobile phones to communicate. We see that Job’s words were more than just a scientific prediction; he was speaking about a way of life. Some argue that the Scriptures may be figurative about science and technology, but whether literal or otherwise, it has been consistently correct in what it says.

The Bible is not a book of science but when it made scientific statements on several occasions, it is surprisingly accurate. For instance, the Scriptures predicted that the earth was round even before science confirmed it. “He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy and spreads them out like a tent to live in [Isaiah 40:22]; the word “circle” implies that the earth is round. The prophet Isaiah said this about 700 BC. At that time, people believed that the earth was flat, or they would fall off the surface into space if it was round; back then, no one understood gravity, and sailors were afraid to reach the edge of the sea. In 340 BC, the famous Greek thinker Aristotle wrote a book, On the Heavens, where he gave reasons to support the theory that the earth was shaped like a sphere. Later, more evidence would confirm it. In the twentieth century, aerial photographs showed the earth to be round, but the Bible had said it well ahead of time.

There’s fallen angel teachings within the mix and its mentioned in the bible. The problem with technology is two-fold. You don’t know the source or where its heading.

For example, most assume digital currency is a recent phenomenon. But Powell said they’ve been working on it for 20 years. Which places it during the dot-com boom and bust.

While I’m not Amish there’s a lot of wisdom in their unwillingness to embrace everything. They don’t forsake relationships for technology. Or forgo useful practices for convenience.

When you look at where things stand presently who’s got the leg up? They’re not looking for friends online. They have community. Or petitioning strangers for support. They have each other’s back.

Have we really progressed or are we the biggest losers?

Take the computer as an example, the man responsible for creating the first computer the "Difference Engine" Charles Babbage (1791–1871) was a dedicated Christian and even applied to become a church minister.

This shows me that many of the "ideas" for technology come from God.

Psa 37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way.

Yet, people, and the devil, can corrupt what God has given. Computers can increase productivity, save lives, and provide enjoyment, but they can also be used to kill (in weapon systems), and people can watch inappropriate content on them, or use them in ungodly ways.

The object is not evil, it is how it is used. So no technology is not evil.

Tech evil or good? It is in the hands of the user I think. I can use it for nefarious OR great purposes. I personally believe you should be asking "Are more embracers of technology using it for good or bad purposes/reasons?
Just my thought.

Technology is God's gift to humanity, to unfetter us from our bodies and the cruelty of nature.

I don't mean to denigrate anyone, but both of these sound like superstition, not good sense.

A person could use a shovel (technology) to dig a hole or wack someone over the head; it's all in the intention and use. The more powerful the technology, the greater good it can do or the greater harm. I don't think much has changed in regard to the human heart and the generally myopic outlook of humans. We develop all kinds of things without giving much thought to repercussions. Or, if we do, we're too fascinated by the advantages. So, yeah, we're doomed, or not.

Technology is just a natural development stemming from the fact that man is a rational being. Nothing wrong with it in and of itself. It can be used, however, for good or ill, or neither. As with anything, however, we’re not to idolize it because technology cannot solve the problems of fallen man, or answer the deepest questions in his heart.

Satan isn't some kind of electrical field in the atmosphere.

When Scripture speaks of the "prince of the power of the air" it is the same thing as saying "prince of demons". To understand what this "power of the air" refers to means we need to dig a little deeper into the historical and cultural backdrop of the New Testament. Both the Greek and Jewish background, and how they engaged one another in the time leading up to and includes the New Testament era.

In ancient Greek mythology and popular religion there were all manner of divine and subdivine beings. A word to describe these diverse spirits was daemones (singulr daemon). This word was used to describe water nymphs, tree nymphs, and various nature spirits; it could also be used to even refer to the gods of Mt. Olympus. In the thinking of the Greeks there were spirits inhabiting the earth, spirits inhabiting the heavens, and spirits inhabiting the air. These were daemones--spirits. There was no negative connotation for the Greeks, as daemones could be good, evil, both, or neither.

When Alexander conquered Persia this included Judea, and the Jews were now ruled by a Greek imperial power. Over time, even after Alexander's empire divided as soon as he died between his top generals, the Jews continued to be under Greek hegemony--and caught in the middle of two warring Greek successor kingdoms: The Seleucids of Syria and the Ptolemies of Egypt.

As Jewish and Greek ideas bumped into one another, this idea of daimones from the Greeks was appropriated by Jews, but used in a strictly negative sense: daemones were evil spirits, and thus also idols/false gods were called daimones. Hence Paul can say in 1 Corinthians 10 that the table of idols is the table of demons.

And so this Greek idea of daimones as spirits inhabiting every sphere, such as the air between earth and heaven, stuck around.

In other words, the devil isn't some kind of electrical field, he is simply being called the chief wicked spirit, the chief daemon.

And Jesus saying He saw the devil fall like lightning is figurative, the devil's fall to the earth is described as being like lightning--not that the devil is literally lightning.

Technology is just technology, it is neither inherently good or bad.

What makes technology good, bad, or neither is how technology is used. In other words, whether it is good or bad depends entirely on us. Human beings, not technology, are moral things--we are held culpable.

An ipad isn't going to have to stand before God on the Last Day, we are.
