Hope this isn't off-topic here, but I thought this forum looked right.

I'd like to get peoples opinions on what they think about people involved in technology, if they seem more likely to reject scripture. I'm involved with a large community of software developers and am trying to gather an understanding of why I think developers and people dealing w/ technology in general seem more inclined to reject Christian teachings.

Any thoughts/ideas/comments much appreciated. It's for a project I'm working on.

Thnxs.

People who are involved with science are much less likely to accept teachings which contradict their understanding of science. There are some versions of Christian thought which are more common among technologists than they are among the general population, and some which are less common.

Tzuriel - I don't believe a larger percentage of technologists reject the teachings of scripture than the population in general. I go to a church that has a lot of technologists. In fact, I am a technologist and I personally know 3 Christian pastors in a group of 50 people I work with in technology.

hello everyone
I work in the engine rooms aboard ships. A ship is simply a large mechanical device made up of many smaller devices employed in different systems so the ship as a whole can function as it was designed to function. The key word being designed. I know of engineers who do not believe in the God of the Bible but who also realize that complex systems do not design and put themselves into operation. I would think that those of us involved in operation and design whether it be designing a new more efficient can opener or constructing a complex soft ware program are more aware of the necessity of a creator or designer than most.

I agree. I hated christianity for years, but it was the science behind who and what God claimed to be that convinced me that there must be a God. Our God is the only one who claims to be every mathmatical and scientific law or structure required to be a God by only saying that he is the light! This is the concept that changed me. I have a step father that was converted by the same means, and he was the man that corrected the math for the Hubble telescope allowing for the famous contact lense. Jesus must be accepted through faith but God is the creator of everything that we only now begin to understand in this age of technological leaps and bounds.

I recall reading these statistics somewhere—it must have been on the internet—that, among scientists, physicists are at the highest probability of being atheists and that mathematicians are the most likely to believe in God.

My experience has shown the opposite for physicists but that seems correct for mathematicians.

I work in technology myself and I can tell you that generally people working in hi-tech are reasonable people. When approaching a person such as this you must appeal to their reason - rather than emotion or ignorance.
Simply saying "This is the word of God so you have to listen to it" is hardly appealing to reason.
Make sure you have a firm understanding of the reasons (the 'whys' not just the 'whats') you believe and your evangelization efforts will improve 100%.
