  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does anyone else enjoy a sad song now and then? What are some of the songs that bring a tear to your eye every time you hear them?

My favorites might be a little old/obscure, but nevertheless, here's my list (in no particular order):

1) "No Charge" by Melba Montgomery

2) "Soldier's Last Letter" by Ernest Tubb

3) "Little Boy Soldier" by Wanda Jackson

4) "My Mother Was a Lady" by Jimmie Rodgers (or Marty Robbins)

5) "I Hear a Sweet Voice Calling" by Bill Monroe*

* Even Bill Monroe himself said that he had a hard time performing that song, because he'd get choked up while singing it...

mine would have to be by the Dixie Chicks, but I don't know what its calle but it goes a little something like this:
Two days past 18, waiting for the bus in his army greens, sat down in a booth at a cafe there, gave his order to a girl with a bow in her hair, hes a litlle shy so she gave him a smile and he said would you mind sitting down for a while....

the words might not be exact but you get the point.

It makes me cry everytime i hear it.

That's Travelin' Soldier, mel78. It's a good one! Whiskey Lullaby is another recent sad one. I love sad songs...don't know why! :) Just off the top of my head, another one that'll get you every time is that old Red Sovine (I think?) song "Teddy Bear"...at least it gets me everytime!

God bless!

"Hurt" as interperted by Johnny Cash.

Especially in music video form. The day after his death I was watching the video for it and it was just incredibly sad. I was a teary mess that whole day.

To me, that song has taken on a very morbid quality to it after his death.

Oh, I love listening to tear-jerkers every once in a while. I believe it's good for the soul to have a good, hard cry every once in a while. Anywho, here are my fave heart-wretching songs:

"You'll Be There" - George Strait
Ever since the first time I heard this song my eyes tear up everytime I hear it. It makes me think of someone very special to me. He's still alive (thank God), but he's a Marine and more than likely going to be deployed to Iraq next year, and if, God forbid, something should happen to him, this song would hit the chords perfectly.

"If Something Should Happen" - Darryl Worley
If this one doesn't get you crying, then you must be a robot.

"Whiskey Lullaby" - Brad Paisley ft. Allison Krauss
Self-explanatory.

"There You'll Be" - Faith Hill
Just an amazing song. First time I heard it was when Pearl Harbor first came out. Even though I didn't see the movie until just recently, this song stuck with me.

"Not A Day Goes By" - Lonestar
I love this song to pieces, 'nuff said =P

One of the biggest one's for me was "Don't take the girl" sung by Tim McGraw! Also another one is oh nevermind, I can't think of what it's called, and I don't know the lyrics well enough. They don't play it enough though.
