Mt 28:

16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
What did 'all' include? Did that include all the OT laws?

Concerning the OT laws in general, Mt 5:

17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them."
Concerning the Sabbath law, Matthew 12:

8 For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.
The Pharisees interpreted the law legally. Jesus interpreted it in light of his first coming.

Mt 22:

36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
Jn 13:

34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.
Jn 14:

26 But the Helper [Paraclete], the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
Jesus came to broaden the kingdom of God to include Gentile believers. The Paraclete dwells in believers to teach them to observe Jesus' teachings.

Jesus commanded the eleven disciples: Teach them to observe all that I have commanded you.

If Jesus taught them to continue to observe the sabbath and they didn’t teach their congregations to observe it then they failed to do what He commanded them to do.
Right. However, Jesus focused on his own gospel teachings, not Moses' OT.

Jesus added to the law. Mark 12:30 Jesus said: heart, mind, soul & strength.

Moses said Deuteronomy 6:4-5 heart soul and strength.

We need to understand the distinction between the spirit of the law and the letter of the law. It highlights how the spirit of the law emphasizes the intent and purpose behind the law, leading to flexible and compassionate application, while the letter of the law focuses on strict, literal adherence to the rules.

Spirit of the Law:

  • Intent and Purpose: Focusing on the underlying principles and intentions behind the law, aiming to uphold its true values.
  • Flexible Application: Interpreting and applying the law in ways that align with its intended goals, promoting justice and compassion even if it means not following the letter exactly.

Jesus adds to what we receive from Moses. He does not take anything away. Paul quotes David, but people have trouble understanding. Under the Law we can be good and reap the benefits of being good. With God it is through faith and the grace of God working in us that we become right with God so we abide in His righteousness. That is why Paul says: "It is written". He is quoting Psalm 14:1-3 and Psalm 53:1-3. David loved the law of God, David delighted in the law. But he understood that: Psalm 51:16-17 (NIV): > "You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; > you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. > My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; > a broken and contrite heart > you, God, will not despise."
