CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

went to an Italian restaurant and a customer sucked several strands of his spaghetti at a time which was so disgusting. Kids decided they didn't want to look like that. That mental image is still with me. But it was a great motivator - purely by accident but very effective.

Put a plate with food in front of them with a knife and a fork I think. Or go to the Mac.
If you want them to sit still and straight up, stay when they're finished and such, I've got no idea, since I don't care about that.

I would add start with stressing what is important and also things you can give a reason for. Insisting they ask someone to pass something instead of standing up and leaning over their siblings plate is a good example.
Save the things that are only custom for last, not in the modeling, in the insisting on.
Of course learning that mom is more apt to say yes to a second helping of desert is asked politely does not hurt either.
