Teaching Overseas

Hello,

I wanted to get some advice/prayers from fellow believers in Christ. A close friend of mine is moving to South Korea to teach English. She feels like God is leading her to do this, and I know how important it is to get some encouragement from the Christian community. Please check out her new blog, and keep her in your prayers.

Nice of you to ask for prayer and support.

Everyone will tell her to get to know the culture, and I can't stress that enough. It's important to learn not just the customs but the attitudes and expectations, and respect how people go about thought processes. Christianity can look very different when filtered through the screens of cultures.

There are little differences in cultures like respecting elders, obeying leaders, staying silent in certain situations -- not so little when we barge ahead and blurt out in our western way.

I hope she has a great time getting to know people there!

Can't help but imagine God would compel someone to teach in a country that doesn't already have one of the best academic infrastructures in the world.

Just my opinion.
