  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

hey all,
I'm starting to put together a lesson on the persecuted churches (Voice of the martyrs style). We've been slowly prepping them by reading an excerpt from Jesus Freaks every week. I'm not sure how I want to lay out the entire lesson or even what specific part to focus on. I know I want it to be big. I want to show at least one video clip that empahsises what majority of Christians outside the US are experiencing. Any ideas and suggestions would help.
Be Blessed,
Laura

Hi Laura,

YouthSpecialties has a great underground church activity (and it is free!) at http://www.youthspecialties.com/free/programming/underground/

There are also links on the above site for curriculum. We are getting ready for the 2006 World Vision 30 Hour Famine and we are going to try this out.

Good Luck and God Bless.

Because of Him,

Terry

haha.. I have been reminding my youth about this for some time now but when i first started...

By the hand of God... it just so happened that we had been passing out flyers the week before in different stores, malls, parking lots... etc... and one of the parents had complained (unknowing that we had permission) that we could be arrested for "forcing our religion on others" so... I called a police officer that I knew was a minister and asked him to come into youth service that following Wed night and arrest me for " code violation #56 - illegal religious solicitation"... lol...

I didnt tell any of my youth he was going to do this... so promply 15 min's into the service time he comes in... ask's me if I am Rick Turner... and then places me under arrest... took my bible away from me and dropped it on the floor... put me against the wall... searched me... cuffed me... and then drug me out of there... lol.. I had told him to make it real...

The look on their faces was priceless...

as he was putting me in the car i glanced back to see a 12 faces plastered to the door window

He drove me around the block and then brought me back.. haha...

I felt a little bad bc some of the girls were crying... but some of them were at the alters praying for me!..

but... from then on... everything i said about how blessed we are to NOT suffer very much persecution... they were all in the middle of it...

It really brought the point home... ( and they still love me! ) lol

Wow, you guys are so blessed. When I tried to teach this to our youths I got such negative feedback from the parents and others higher up in leadership. The kids didn't mind learning the material, but the parents/gaurdians had some objections. All I kept thinking was "but I know your child sees worse than this on T.V." I know such thoughts weren't charitable, but I really couldn't help myself at the point. All I kept thinking was 'why are we raising a generation of Christians who are seemingly unaware of the price of their salvation?'

The issue is still on my heart and I'm exploring new ways to teach the material (with the parents and church admin. consent of course).

Thanks for the links and ideas so far. Will put them to good use.
