• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does anyone know of some good websites or sources I can show to my parents?

I was recently diagnosed with depression and social anxiety disorder but even tho I've been on medication and seeing a therapist for over a month now my parents don't seem to understand what I'm going through. They just get angry with me all the time and make me feel like im suppose to be able to control how I feel. They've seen brocures and things but I can't seem to find a website that really explains very well how badly it really affects me.

I just Googled the words; Depression Websites, and it brought up numerous sites on depression. I figured you could do that and choose the one that best fits your needs

I suffered from depression many years as a teenager. I also suggest prayers and reading bible, especially New Testament. And get away from sinning and sinful things. Those things really brought me down more than I knew at the time. Keep in New Testament, especially Jesus, He saves us from sins.

I'm praying for you. God is with us, you aren't alone

I think a lot of people who deal with depression can relate to that. It can also be very frustrating. It's not as if you've wished negative feelings upon yourself. You can't make it go away anymore than anyone can make themselves perpetually happy. If we could, well, we would be.

The closest I've come to explaining depression (which several still argue with me over) is comparing it to Diabetes. The problem is quite similar: a lacking production or sensitivity to a chemical. It's just one chemical is a mood regulator.

If you happen to come across anything that specifically spells out what you want your parents to know, I think many of us, myself included, would be interested in reading.

I hope everything works out.

SolitarySoul,

I know you've asked for resources on the Net, but I can't help but relate this little bit of knowledge: while your parents may someday reach an intellectual understanding of the depression you face, they will never truly understand and feel your pain unless they've experienced it themselves.

This may not help you to help them, but it might help you to understand that they probably just won't "get it". Just as it's not your fault that you suffer from depression, it's not their fault that they won't completely understand.

It just "is".

Blessings to you!

A good place to start would be depressionforums.org They have an excellent database and tons of links to other info. Plus the community there is absolutely huge and they can help you out. They respond quickly and are incredibly helpful. Highly recommended site. I used to go there all the time before I found this place.
