I am curious to find out how many of you TEs are scientists and is your knowledge of evolution stem from reading or actual scientific work you yourselves have done?

I'm not interested in debating in this thread, I'm just curious as to where you TEs are in the spectrum of how you am have gotten your knowledge on the subject.

Though I'm still a college student I have conducted science, so I suppose one might refer to me as a scientist. I'm going to give you the same answer that any scientist will give you, though - scientists' knowledge comes from both conducting scientific work themselves and from learning about scientific work conducted by others. Science is, as a whole, a collaborative effort.

I do not have a degree or any credentials in any of the sciences that relate directly to evolutionary theory.

I do have a degree in sociology, however, and being adept at the scientific method was a big part of that degree work, as was the study of the history and philosophy of science.

I have done fruit fly experiments in high school and college as part of my general curriculum.

I have read extensively and continue to read, as there always new material being published and older stuff of which I wasn't aware.

And now, to be fair, let's have you create another poll asking the same questions of Creationists, so that we can compare the results.

Of course with these credentials, you could be a prolific writer of creationist material debunking evolution.

Heck, they let lawyers, engineers, physicists, and Doctorates of Christian Education do it. Why not you?

I gave up on writing science fiction years ago.

A lot of the research done in my department deals with engineering based on Evolution. I generally say that if a theory can be used to engineer it's probably fairly sound. The only exceptional situation I can think of is when a new theory supersedes an old one (not so much refuting it).

Just because the TEs may or may not be scientists doesn't mean they are wrong.

The Fallacy of Appealing to False Authority is only violated if someone claims something is true by personal authority when that person has no formal training in what he/she is claiming.

The TEs here always quote from peer-reviewable (and reviewed) scientific information. Therefore, there is no logical fallacy violated by the TEs here.

I'm working on becoming a scientist, and my next research project involves a little biology, but no real application evolution. Everything I've learned from evolution was mostly self taught or through these forums. There is a wealth of knowledge on these boards (at least from the evolutionist side).
