  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What is your opinion on tattoos?

(I'm wondering because I got my first one today and wanted to know what ya'll thought of tattoos before I posted a picture of it. )

Okay so I'm a little late on this one, haven't felt like posting in last little while.

Hmmmm tattoos really don't have a problem with them. Hey it's your skin, your money. For me I just won't do it. That's all...

As I said earlier, I've got a tattoo of a 'Jesus Fish' with a cross inside it on my left shoulder. I thought about it a lot, and prayed a lot too. I got it done on the day of my 21st birthday. It's symbolic to me; on the traditional day of manhood I was marked permanantly for Christ.

I've got another one planned for my other shoulder; I just don't know when. It's a very simple two color design of three nails inside a crown of thorns. It's black with every single point on the crown and nails covered in blood. It represents sacrifice, the price paid for my sin and salvation, but it would also mark me as a soldier, someone who is completely, totally and utterly surrendered to His will. As much as I'm committed in my heart, I have not yet proven, to my own satisfaction, that I deserve it.

My body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. If I'm going to paint it, it's going to be well thought out and glorifying to God.

Pyro, that sounds like an awesome tattoo that you are planning. Do you design your own? I mean, are you an artist?

And I agree with you, that it needs to be well thought out. I wanted the one I got today since I was 19. It's taken me three years to contemplate it and actually find someone that I trust to do it.

The girl that did it is a Christian and she's an amazing artist.

Here's a picture of the one I got done today...

It's "Passion" in Aramaic. I'm sure some of you know that passion means, "suffering".

It hurt really bad to get it done on my foot but it was worth it, and I like the pain. lol

how does it look now? still red?

Here's a picture of the "breathe". I had to get "just" touched up a little so it's red again.

That picture makes it look lighter than it really is. It's more white but it does look more like a scar or brand than a tattoo. Which I really like and was what I was going for.

What was the reason for just breathe?

I have three. Two I got way before my bc days. Really for no reason. I have one on my ankle that I used to cover where I carved some guys initials in my leg in middle school.

I have angel wings on my back. It is in memory of two babies that I aborted as a young stupid person and three that I have miscarried. I would really like to get 5 sets of babies feet somewhere but I am not sure where. I thought about doing it a couple weeks ago on my birthday because I was in a rebellious mood.

Then my pastor reminded me that rebellion is witchcraft which is a serious offense against the holy spirit.

I don't have anything against the theory of tatoos - but the thought freaks me out (the pain of having it done...) and i don't like the look of them (just by seeing one i can feel the pain...) It's a bit irrational because i don't have a problem with piercings and would consider having one done (i have my ears pierced, would maybe like to do the top of my ear)

Thanks kelco and LT! I think it looks great too.

Laurie, the "just breathe" has many meanings to me, so the meaning of it is personal. That's why I got it done in white ink, so it's more for me to see and understand. Even if I explained what it means to me, most of you wouldn't understand since it's personal. ;)

But the passion one is more of a witnessing tool I guess. A conversation starter to tell people about the suffering the Christ endured on the cross for us. And to kinda comment on Joanna's post, they do hurt... a lot. Especially on the foot... the whole time I was thinking, how much more painful it was for Jesus to have a nail stuck through that same spot and hang there to die to carry the sins of the world. How painful was that?

I can sit through 30 minutes of tattoo pain. That is nothing compared to what He did for me.

I just think of the country song when I see it. That is why I was asking.

I've had a few people wonder if I got it because of a song... to tell you the truth, I had never heard of a song with those words until after I got the tattoo. It wasn't until people mentioned a song, that I knew! lol

Hmm, I thought it was a reference to the Anna Nalick song, but when someone said country, I thought..oh yeah, Faith Hill. Sorry, for the randomness...;)

Yea, I designed them both myself. I'm not really an artist; most of the stuff I draw is very simple and symbolic. Like the picture on the right; it's based on the logo from the Bible College I attended, mixed with a bit of my millitary style :)
