TO TATTOO OR NOT TO TATTOO

By the way, our bodies are the Temple of God (1 Corinthians 3). If you didn't know, basically all the gold was inside it. Outside the temple wasn't adorned with gold silver or drawings. All that had value was inside (gold, silver, etc.). It was not adorned outside. Anything valuable (pertaining to the temple) was inside.

Now ... do you get my point? I hope you do. God is not impressed with tattoos or jewelery. I mean ... the Temple wasn't adorned with drawing or gold outside. And what would we say of a Church building full of graffiti?

I do not believe it is a good idea, and God said in Leviticus:

"Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD." (Leviticus 19:28)

Please meditate on the Temple imagery because it's important, for you are the Temple, and God will destroy all who defile His Temple. What would you think of some kids who make graffiti on God's Holy Temple?

So in conclusion: don't do it! Christ wants you to bear the cross, not tattoo it on you! You will be a lot happier if you don't do it. Trust me. Christ said that we are a light of the world, and we make contrast by our good works (contrast for you are light in the world, which darkness). The nations will see your works and will give glory to God. It says nothing about them seeing a tattoo you.

So just don't do it. As cool as it looks, God has commanded in Leviticus not to do it. "If you love me you will keep My commandments" and Jesus is the Lord in Leviticus (isn't He called "Lord Jesus Christ" in the NT?). So don't.

I have a tattoo of an egyptian cross on my right upper arm and despite my noble attempt at acknowledging my faith, I now regret it. I am now considering having it removed. My advice is don't do it. Sometimes I really feel like I disappointed God by getting it.

And it is a bad way to invest money as well. If I'm not mistaken, it can take up to thousands of dollars to remove tattoos, depending on the tattoo, of course. So you pay $150 for a tattoo and $6,000 (for example) to get it removed. Not a good investment. Better give the 150 dollars to the poor for:

1. It glorifies God more than tattoos.
2. You have a treasure in Heaven and that treasure is:

• For eternity.
• More valuable than tattoos.

I can't believe how many christians profess to be bible-believing but then don't even read half of it because it's "old". that's like signing a contract without reading it. unreal...

It is interesting to note there that the Bible or God nowhere states that the Law and the Prophets (Old Testament) are in any way "Old". There is simply no support for that. I think the Bible shouldn't be divided in "Old" and "New" for this division is un-Biblical.

I personally see nothing wrong with tattoos that are not anti-Christian or tattoos that are Christian. I believe we are free from the Old Testament law.

Proof? Where does the Bible or God say that the Law and the Prophets (and the Psalms) are in any way "Old"?

I'm not a Jew so what Lev says doesn't really apply to me.

"Do not degrade your daughter by making her a prostitute" (Leviticus 19:29) Did you know this commandment is only found in Leviticus (and perhaps Deuteronomy) and it is not found in the New Testament? Did you know that one of the "big 2" which Jesus spoke of is found in the same chapter the commandment again marks on the body is made? "Thou shalt love your neighbor as yourself" (Leviticus 19) I don't think this reasoning make sense. I think both the commandments listed above in blue apply to you, and they are found in Leviticus.

You don't see temples that are just bare walls with nothing on them, they are paited, got statues, pictures.... ect...ect. my body is my temple and i'll decorate it how ever i see fit.

Wrong. First of all, it is not "your" Temple. It is the Temple of God. Only God can say "your body is my Temple". It is not yours in any way. Have you not heard or read that we have been purchased by God by Jesus' blood? We are not "ours" anymore but His. He payed the ransom and we are His, and He can do whatever He wishes with us. And if He says we shouldn't have outwards decorations or that we should have, we must obey, for we are servants of righteousness... His servants. You are not yours, but His.

And one more thing ... what you are describing certainly are pagan temples. The Temple of God (just look at it's description) is not decorated outside, but inside. Just think about it. All the gold and valuable things are inside. The Temple of God is not decorated with images outside. Even churches today, they have their images inside. This logic would work only if God's Temple would be decorated outside on it's walls ... but the proof lies on the fact that it is decorated inside. All the important stuff happened inside. Now what would God say if someone would come and paint a graffiti on His Temple in Old Testament times? "You see oh Lord ... I think it would be a lot beautiful with some painting that this ...thing you did. I mean, why should it be just blank and no decoration?" God made us this way. Our skin is the outside wall, and since the Temple wasn't decorated outside I don't believe we should be decorated either.

Just cause has meaning doesn't mean it can't look, and I wasn't saying you shouldn't follow Old Testament law, I was saying that they that have no grounds to condemn you under Old Testament law.

We don't condemn you, we condemn the act.

I and several of my friends from church got first tattoos 2 years ago. I have been able to use it as a witnessing tool over and over and love it. A treble clef over a cross, it is personal and unique and I love it.
I prayed and listened to the Lord, got my hubands go ahead and as glad I have it.

If you have a way that I do... then just listen to what God has to say. I can literally ask God for guidance about something. and I will see a sign in the form of a random music lyric I hear that JUMPS OUT AT ME in a different way than those same lyrics I hear that I just like the sound of them...

I would ask God. If you have that connection I have with him then... just ask

So if tattoos are wrong for this reason, makeup and jewelry should also be prohibited, so do you speak against those things as well?

Now go and understand what that passage is talking about. That is talking about pagan religious rites of the time of hte Exodus. It is telling them to keep themselves separated from those pagan religions, to keep themselves pure from that defilement. Now understand that modern tattooing has NOTHING to do with those ancient pagan religious rites.
