  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I just had a major foot in mouth moment!!

I bumped into a friend in town just now and she asked if I heard her news. I said nope but knew exactly what was coming and yep she said she was pregnant. Instead of saying a normal thing like congratulations I said 'oh no not you as well'.

Oops! My super dumb comments didn't even occur to me until after I had said goodbye. Luckily she is someone who knows me well enough to know I talk before I think sometimes and she wouldn't have taken offense (I will email her later to say congrats anyway).

It was just after my post yesterday about my older friends being childfree and now slowly they are no longer childfree. I always kinda assumed from the way this couple spoke that they were childfree. They have been married 5 years but I guess I just thought that they would stay that way.

So do I have a wait 18 years to get everyone back to normal? I no longer have faith that anyone will stay childfree now. If a child is what a couple wants then I am really happy for them but the very selfish part of me wants childfree friends too.

The girls at work laughed at me when I told them (mostly parents so hopefully it really isnt insulting).

Well, if they already think your weird, then it probably wasn't anything they weren't expecting. Yeah, there are times when you put your foot in your mouth.

Or, you could do what most criminals do and just plead insanity! Anytime you insult someone just tell 'em your insane, or that God made you do it...I think either one works!

I have to admit, I laughed REALLY hard when I read your post. I said something like that to a friend a few months ago. Not word for word, but along the same lines. She laughed it off because she knows how I am, but I was definitely red around her for a few days after that. If she wasn't upset, I don't think you should be :).
