wait. . Link, the ultra traditionalist, was not married by a member of the clergy?
because he didn't find that in the Bible.....
are you *sure* you're legally married in each country of the world?
When you marry your wife, she joins your family. She joins your clan. She takes your name and becomes part of your family.
Actually, the Bible does not support this. Here's what it does say: "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife...." With this verse in mind, it makes sense that he would take her name.
Personally, I think that verse means more than consummation. I think "cleave to his wife" also includes the idea that his future wife's opinions and feelings have a greater influence on him that any one else's do.

A woman who marries a widower would take a name that his previous wife had. She would be the "second" Mrs x. People who love each other don't get that stressed out about these things.Btw, I wish the OP and his future bride a long and happy life.
But there is a problem with a man taking his wife's name. If the wife dies first, then he's got his wife's maiden name. It's weird enough as it is to take the wife's family name. But if he remarries is he going to give the second wife the first wife's family name? How would she like that?
I don't see any arguing for his taking her name in that passage. Adam names her 'kind' as woman, isha, and later names her personally as Hawa, Eve. He didn't take any name she gave him as far as we know.
No one is "giving" anyone a name. It's the OP (and his future wife) *choosing* names.
Taking the wife's name may create havoc if any of his descendants try to figure out their own geneology.
The post I was responding to was 'reaching'. My comment made sense in context.

If judges keep reading 'rights' into the Constitution that aren't there to support people engaging in sexual perversion like they have been, incest may eventually be legalized. If that happens and a man has the same last name as his wife's family, others may suspect him of incest.
