Regardless, I don't think the main point of Genesis was to detail generations of people, whether they were godly or not.

Those generations served a powerful function in Israel's history; and it had better have been recorded.

Ezra 2:62 These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but they were not found: therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood.

And even in this day and age, people will pay out big bucks to see where they came from.

.... because I don't believe in the Plenary Inspiration of the Bible, nor do I necessarily agree with the way fundamentalistic Christians interpret the Bible or advocate for its supposed inerrancy.

Let's just say that because of my studious, academically laden mind, I have to work extra hard to try to believe that the Bible is inspired through and through.

The Church believes in a form of PI, but we emphasize that it cannot demean the active participation of the writers (except for a few examples, such as Ezekiel or John). The Church teaches that the Bible is entirely inspired by God (plenary inspiration, as stated), but not in a way that negates the human authors' active role in composing the text. So, while VPI is not accepted in the same way as it is known in reformed circles (such as the mechanical/word-for-word dictation process), Non-Verbal Plenary Inspiration still exists outside of evangelical Christianity, as that is what gives the Bible (and Church) its authority!
