The intent was to protect religion from the gov. The liberal agenda has it backwards and they want to try to protect the gov from religion. That is why our Government will fail because they no longer want to protect the rights of others.
Yes if theres any nation that is going to be concerned about both religion being kept out of government but at the same time government keeping out of religious affairs and freedoms its the US.

The thing is when want to protect the government from religion your normally doing so because of your own ideological beliefs about the same things religion is concerned about.

So its not a neutral position. Its strange because its almsot the opposite of how I have seen the US throughout history as being a protector of religion especially Christainity. Its almost rejecting their own past and part of their DNA. No wonder there is so much conflict over this.

I remember Jessie Owens with the raised fist on the podium in front of Hitler.
You are remembering something that didn’t happen.

Sorry you are right. It was the 1968 olympics. Still a symbolic moment in history and now that I think about it this makes sense as 1968 would have been during the civil rights movement which began earlier that decade.

As it turns out Jessie Owens saluted and thats why I got it mixed up. But this also shows the difference in symbols that represented the US at the time. In 1938 pre war it was a salute to the American flag. Thirty years later it was a a raised fist against American.

Let everyone do as they wish. Stop being offended. We belong to the kingdom and not America.
I know a woman who was offended because her son was in the military, and him taking a knee during the national anthem to her was like a slap in the face.

I remember Jessie Owens with the raised fist on the podium in front of Hitler. Now that was symbolic.

But I think like most things this type of protest or affirmation was spontaneous and for the time and needed.

Now it seems its become everything like it signifies a groups entire identity. The raised fist is interesting as its very symbolic of Marxism, especially defiant resistence. This became a symbol of BLM which says a lot.

I don't think people should specifically make a point of injecting their political or idrological beliefs into a public event which may have nothing to do with politics or religion. Otherwise if its allowed let every ideology display their alligences and beliefs. But that would be mayhem.

The problem is thanks to identity politics everyone has become hyper sensitive to differences and become divided. In the past when people made public displays it was usually a representation of the vast majority and unnoticed. Just what was expected within a God fearing nation.

But now God is being rejected in the public square its become a competition of ideologies and identities and more about virtue signalling. Of course we know that a house divided is a house on shaky ground.
Jesse Owens didn't raise a fist on the podium. He stood at attention and saluted.
You are thinking of Tommy Smith and John Carlos, who raised their fists, in 1968.

Yes someone else pointed that out and I double checked and found I mistook the two as you said. Still both iconic symbols in our history.
