Hmm. You have a point. However, have you noticed the number of tags in certain threads? It seems to be getting out of hand or that it will soon become that way. I'm not a moderator, but I have known several over the years and each has told me they have more than enough on their plates as it is. They have to be reported to in order to see things (which is beyond-me because they are still here, but again, I'm not a moderator so whatever). Placing so many obscure/random/ridiculous/hurtful tags does not really help them in their jobs, either.

I don't know exactly what the number is, but there is a limit on how many tags can be added to a thread because that limit was hit in the previous crush thread.

I used to be a moderator here, and yes...the reports can be a lot to deal with at times. The way I see it though, the people who were posting the offensive tags are the same ones that would be posting things that staff would have to correct anyway. That's just my two cents.

... Which would be my point in suggesting why give the troll-ish posters even more opportunity? I guess this does revert back to school days. Classmates getting punished for the disruptive kids. *shrug*

If they want to remove the feature completely that's one thing. I just think it's silly to be so strict about what can be tagged.

It is the same. You are a guest on a forum whose owner decides what is acceptable. You can post about pie, but there are areas in CF where you can not do this because it is off topic for that forum. I don't see what that is a problem with the tags.

Seriously, besides being silly, what productive purpose does posting immature and irrelevant tags serve? What benefit is there to the forum of posting random silly tags that max out the tag system and keep it from being used in its intended form as a search aid?

My last post is not meant as an attack, but a challenge. If the posting of silly things in tags is so important, then I want to know why I should back that stance? I want to know how allowing that helps us as posters. From what I have seen so far, the mods have made a very good point that these tags are designed and meant for a search aid, and the random tagging of useless stuff hinders that function.

So, if it is important to be able to post the silly tag stuff, I would like to hear more concrete reasoning than "why not?"

Just to be clear, 90% of the stuff posted on CF doesn't serve a "productive purpose". A lot of us come here because it is a form of entertainment, and those tags were entertaining. Who do you know that ever used tags to search by?

You don't have to like it, but really - why censor something that's not harmful to anyone?

So in other words, you have no reason that this should be allowed to continue other than you want it to?

I think the mods have put up a heck of an argument that definitely trumps "because I want to."

Your same argument can be used with all kinds of harmful things, as long as it doesn't harm everyone but only a few people. Hey, meth is ok, it only harms the people using it and their direct family! Hey, terrorism is ok, as long as it's only aimed at specific groups and I am not part of that group!

Now, I am not saying the tag lines is in any way comparable to these examples, but pointing out the flaw in using that logic to argue your stance.

That's my point though. It's NOT harmful. How are tags hindering something that wasn't used to begin with?

That's the reason why I take such long breaks from this site. People are censored for no reason other than a few people want to go on a power trip.

No one wants to go on a power trip. The reason tags are now being censored is because people DID use them in a harmful way and multiple members noticed and took action. If the system had not been abused in such a way, this probably wouldn't have happened. So if people are going to be frustrated, they need to be frustrated with whoever tried to abuse the tagging system to use it for vulgarity and personal attacks rather than with moderators or members for trying to protect those who were the targets of said harassment.
