It's a shame you're bowing out before I have a chance to respond, but that's fine. If you do come back, this is my response:

In retrospect, perhaps I should have taken you aside and told you to take it down immediately. But, for the most part, people here know that I am generally uncomfortable with that kind of "horn tooting." I'm here to lift other people up, not to lift myself up (nor to have others do the same). I'm here to discuss things, not to debate. I'm here to learn, not to be shut-off.

Having said that, I noticed your tag was here one day, gone the next. I don't even think it lasted a week because when I went back to that thread, it was already gone. I discovered that you either need to be a moderator or the tag originator in order to delete a tag, so I just figured you'd deleted it yourself. No harm, no foul. There wasn't a replacement tag for me, so, why would I confront you? Again, that's just my thoughts on it.

The original reason I came to staff regarding this was for the inappropriate/blatantly-disrespectful and immature tags. Sure, I see all the others as pointless and/or silly/immature as well (especially the ones in this thread), but again, mmeh.
I was bowing out to avoid going on and on about the topic, these debates just rub me wrong and I have a bad habit of getting too passionate when debating and I'd rather not get that far into it.

I just wanted to post to let you know yeah I took it down to make a new one, Sweetlamb had commented on not having one yet so I made her one cause I've always thought she was awesome. I've taken all of mine down now though, at least the ones I've remembered making, will take the rest down as I see them.

To those who are defending this like Coach, I hear ya on following rules set by the site. One of my biggest pet peeves on forums is when someone tries to throw out the free speech thing not understanding that forums are private property, let alone that free speech is only protected from the Government censoring people in the first place.

However, first it needs to be made a rule, THEN I will honor their wishes and abide by it. I've read the rules here many times, today included. There is NO rule against using the Tags for fun purposes. All I ask is if they want to impose this even if I disagree with it, then make it official and we will take it serious. Write it in the official rules and ya'all have something to point to for the rest of us.

As I said though I am taking mine down, not trying to rock the boat more or fight for it, just voicing my views and thoughts.

Ok now hopefully I can actually bow out or at least just lurk. lol

hmm.. well I'm a little confused to be honest. Is this a new rule or is it just a suggestion that we use the tags simply for their original purpose?

I agree the insulting, immature tags are problematic and shouldn't be allowed nor should any other form of flaming or baiting. but i don't see the harm in the compliment or joke tags. If its a new rule i'll respect it though.

I'd just like it cleared up if this is in fact a rule now.

My guess is that its an unofficial rule. Probably counted as a forum specific guideline. Should be in the site wide rules though, TBH

Ever read the book Animal Farm?

When Everyone is equal and some are more equal than others?

Now we have official rules...

And those that are "more equal than others" that can pull out "unofficial rules" to do as they please to make things right.

sure...makes perfect sense to me.

And besides...how can a person moderate immaturity? Who makes the determination as to what is mature and what isn't?
Where is this standard so a person can find it?

Sounds like more "unofficial rules" to me.

It is the same. You are a guest on a forum whose owner decides what is acceptable. You can post about pie, but there are areas in CF where you can not do this because it is off topic for that forum. I don't see what that is a problem with the tags.

Seriously, besides being silly, what productive purpose does posting immature and irrelevant tags serve? What benefit is there to the forum of posting random silly tags that max out the tag system and keep it from being used in its intended form as a search aid?

Coach

I don't think the forum owner really cares about the rules here. That's beneath his pay grade.

Doesn't look like an official rule to me. Ergo, I shall be back...

Be very careful. I think you have stumbled onto a major secret. Tread lightly and don't make enemies.

The funny thing is this new rule does absolutely nothing from stopping the people that want to post harmful tags in the first place. There was already a rule in place for flaming and baiting, and that was the rule that was being violated. As it is, the tag feature is still in place and can still be used for breaking the rule of flaming if offenders want to. And seriously, if people are going to be breaking the rules in the first place, I don't think they are going to care where they do it. The only advantage the tag system had is they might have been ignorant of the fact about whether the staff could track them. That said, everyone clearly had checkmarks to know which ones were their's, so it went to assume that the staff probably might be able to figure out who was posting them.

And even the Bible says "A merry heart makes good medicine." The tags were helping people to get through their days and have a bit of enjoyment. We do lose something by having to make all the tags serious, and so it is worth mentioning our dissatisfaction about.

If you didn't use tags as a way to flame/goad/harass/shame someone else, then this won't even effect you and it's not directed towards you. Nilla said not to be used to for fun in a bad way. That means the ones who were harassing, etc. Or getting too vulgar. Everyone else is fine. Silly is alright. Just keep it to that or serious for actual search functions and leave out vulgarity and harassing and you don't have to worry about it. A small percentage were using them in a bad way. They got warnings and will continue to get infractions until they're banned if they don't knock it off. The rest of you are fine.
