• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Anyone ever had the chance to listen to this man's message? Awesome. Extremely enlightening and relevant. I watched a dvd of a message he gave a year or so ago in FL. He talked about his youth and his journey into homosexuality and his journey out. He talked of what helped him, what things hurt him and how the church can minister better in specific ways.

If you get a chance to ever hear his message, I highly advise it. Many of his messages are available online.

Tell us something about him that would have him deemed worthy of our time (I have heard of plenty of people claiming to be ex-gay, your gonna have to do much better than that)

Or give us a short you-tube clip so we can judge ourselves, or something along this line.

There are several you-tube links if you google on his name but I am hesistant to post links to things I have not viewed.

Sy was on the john hopkins sex change list and living as a women for over a year and a half when John Hopkins stopped their program. He has since left that all behind and is married for 20+ years now. Here's his bio from his website:
Regarded as a gifted international communicator, award-winning talk show host, recording artist and pastor, Sy has served for over two decades in ministry as a pastoral care specialist regarding sexuality and related concerns.

His seminars and speaking events are conducted trans-denominationally on 6 continents, for a wide variety of audiences including leadership conferences, counseling training, youth festivals, and men's events such as Promise Keepers.

His insights and dramatic life story have been featured in numerous international media interviews & articles (such as Donohue, 700 Club, Good Morning Australia, The Phillip Adams Show), as well as being featured in several books written by authors such as Dr. James Kennedy (Thomas Nelson Publ), Thomas Trask (Zondervon Publ) and Philip Baker (W&P Publ).
In 1996, Christianity Today Magazine selected Sy as one of ‘Fifty Up & Coming Evangelical Leaders Under 40’. In 2004 Sy became an adjunct professor at King’s College, New York City, and is a frequent speaker in major Christian Universities & Colleges

Married since 1982, Sy and his family have resided in Asia for 7 years where he was one of 25 pastors with the dynamic Anglican 'Church of Our Saviour' in Singapore, and in the South Pacific for almost 4 years, where his ministry is part of Youth for Christ New Zealand.

“I’ve had people say to me, ‘You’re the LAST person I’d ever pick as a representative of sexual redemption!’ I can only agree and say ‘I know—and that’s probably exactly why God would deliberately pick someone like me…after all, it is God who first originated the idea of not judging a book by it’s cover…of picking ‘the reject’, ‘the weak one’, the ‘least likely to succeed’.”
“Oswald Chambers describes my situation well when he said: “We are still just a bunch of beggers…the difference is, we now go to God for our bread”.

“Christians are often ashamed to admit what everyone knows: Being a Christian does not make one immune to sexual passions. We WILL struggle with sexuality...."

Sy's messages do touch on homosexuality, but that is not the focus. God is.

I don't think I can just do links to YouTube videos because it will embed them, but I found two (poor quality) videos of him:

Is it just me, or are all "Ex-Gays" really effeminate-looking and acting men with lisps? There are plenty of large, burly gay men out there, why aren't any of them ex-gay? Are there only certain types of people who are drawn to attempt to change their sexuality through Fundamentalist Christianity? Or is it that less "gay acting" men don't get pressure through their Fundamentalist Christian community to change who they are because no one bothers to question them?

If you lived in Germany and spoke German then later moved to the states and learned to speak English, you may learn to speak it very well, but you'd most likely have a German accent forever. Watching the video really puts Sy's quote below in the proper perspective.

Self confidence?

While I don’t know…I suspect it has to do with the amount of bullying, lying, as well as the verbal, mental physical and emotional abuse that is the cornerstone of ex-gay therapies. Big burly gay men are not likely to put up with a bigot calling them names and trying to hit them.

Oh girlfriend STOP IT! These made me laugh until I cried. Then, I died a little inside. BWAHAHAHAHA

Hahahahahahahaha

There is a phrase that we use from a SNL skit for Homocil (for parents who are having trouble coping with their obviously gay sons.)

"Who wants creme broulee?"

Please, Mister Sister, who are you kidding?

You're responding to what seemed to me a less then serious post with the idea that there is a gay accent?

Amazing. Simply amazing.
