• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I had to go off Cymbalta, which was working really well for me, due to a health concern. Now, I am starting Celexa, and have not been on it for long, and not at a therapeutic level yet. So, I am experiencing a ton of agitation, anxiety, and lethargy. I am afraid to interact with people, for fear of saying or doing something inappropriate and hurting someone.

I just spent a week helping my daughter with her newborn baby, and older two kids. Keeping myself in check with my daughter's emotionalism, due to sleep deprivation and post-partum hormones, was so difficult.

Please pray for me. I am a mess tonight.

Madison, I'm praying for you while you are in this turbulent time. I have experienced med changes a lot and the uncertainty whether it will work and the side effects and then dealing with life in general. Praying for your healing and your daughter. God bless you dear heart. I see how much you help others and how hard you have worked on yourself and your life. That's amazing to me.

Thanks Ruth. I think the Celexa is kicking in. In addition to the med change, I am dealing with a horrific sinus infection. I'll be having sinus surgery on June 4th. I've been sick for months with it. Would appreciate your prayers for that.

Thank you for your encouraging words. God has blessed me with an excellent Cognitive Behavioral Therapist, and a wonderful Christian friend, who has mentored me for years. God has used both to challenge me to grow from an emotional train wreck to a mature Christian woman. I try to encourage others to seek both because I would not be where I am without both of them in my life.

I am praying for your healing from this awful sinus infection. I'm glad the Celexa is starting to work. I think I need a new AD because mine is making me sick to my stomach. You are welcome for the encouragement, it is my pleasure. :) Yes, CBT and a good Christian friend can make all the difference! I have been a train wreck, too. Unfortunately, I still have the train wrecks due to chronic PTSD but I am learning to bounce back more quickly than before, Praise God. I see a Psychiatrist, nurse and social worker/counselor, and depend on a few friends for support but need more support really. Sorry to go on and on about me here in your thread. Just sharing. :)

Hi Ruth,
Don't apologize for talking about your needs. We are here to help one another with encouragement, when we can. I just had psychotherapy this afternoon, and I was told, once again, how I would benefit from self-soothing daily. For some reason, I struggle with consistency on doing the self-soothing on a daily basis, and one of the reasons is because the stuff he wants me to do, requires me to turn off my TV and be in silence for a period of time. The biggest thing he wants me to do is Mindfulness Meditation. So, I did some research and learned all the benefits of it. One of the articles mentioned PTSD, but I can't find that one now. I have an App on my iPhone, and have done some, just not daily, for an extended period of time.

Here's a link about the benefits of it. Mindfulness Meditation: Benefits, Principles and How-To - Natural Health - MOTHER EARTH NEWS

How are you doing now Madison?

Hi Ruth,
The Celexa is working, and I'm glad. As for the surgery, it has been postponed because I came down with shingles. It's now scheduled for June 25th.

I appreciate your love and prayers. How are you doing?

I'm glad the Celexa is working now! I'm sorry you have shingles. I hear it's really painful. I'm nervous about moving. My credit is not perfect so I worry about getting a good place. I know I will find something but don't want to settle for a dump again. Thanks for asking.

Pray about your move and totally put it in God's hands. I'm telling you this because I was in the same exact situation. God really did a miracle. I lived in an apartment complex where I no longer needed a two bedroom townhouse, and the rent was getting too high, and I have had lousy credit for a long time. During the summer, before I had to renew my lease in September, I called a few complexes, and looked at a few apartments, but was always faced with the credit check. So, I renewed my lease, and just left it in the Lord's hands. Well, in December, I got a letter from the apartment complex about signing a document, and if they did not get it signed within a week of the date on the later, my lease would be considered null and void. I had never gotten that letter before, and I lived there for 9 years. A couple of days later, my sister-in-law sent me an e-mail she got at through her work e-mail system. She works at the Bible college here. It was a private, one bedroom apartment, in a nearby town, where the rent was a few hundred dollars less a month. I called the landlord, and we set up an appointment for me to look at the apartment. That evening, I drove past the apartment, just to see what part of town it is in, and it was in a nice part of town. When I met with the landlord, he asked me how I found out about the apartment, so I told him how, and then he asked me how I knew a certain missionary. It turns out, I was handling the prayer letters of a missionary from the church he grew up in, and that his father's printing company was printing. So, my name and address was on all of the prayer letters. He rented the apartment to me with no credit check, because my sister-in-law knows his mother-in-law from work, and because I was handling the prayer letters. And he let me keep my dog, with a small increase in the rent.

He and his new wife lived in the first floor apartment for the first year and a half, then he offered me the first floor, which also includes a yard for my dog, and a basement. The rent is a little higher than upstairs, but I have been having mobility problems off and on, so not having to contend with steps everyday has been such a blessing.

I did get a letter from the apartment complex trying to charge me all sorts of money for supposedly breaking my lease. I knew not to expect my deposit because I did not give any notice before moving out. I sent them a letter stating that I got the letter releasing me from my lease, so I did not break it, and would not be paying them anymore than the deposit. I did not hear from them again.

I moved into the apartment I have now on Labor Day weekend, and God provided me with 7 men and a bunch of teens from church, plus my sister-in-law, sister and two friends to help me move downstairs.

God is so good. He totally took care of my needs in providing this apartment. I am confident He will provide for you.

Hugs,
Trish
