They're just . . . Expressive. Saying a curse word makes people realize that it's not just "wow!"

And I'm thinking that this is where the wrong comes in. God will know when I am putting bad thoughts behind my words, but it still doesn't change the fact that quite a few people will undoubtedly take offense at how I say things. Remember, I'm not just saying things, I am EXPRESSING myself.

So, ah, I'm sure I can find better words to express myself . . . Or methods for that matter. But, is saying a word like "Blast!" just as bad as using any other more, ah, offensive word?

- Matt

I think you said it yourself. You like to say things that offend people. You like that they notice what you say. Cursing may not be a sin but pride is.

Pride is a hard one to crack.
Expressing oneself clearly is always important - I'm not always so good at it! If it seems appropriate to make yer point, swear if you wanna. Jesus did, at the Pharasees mostly. And they are usually the kinda people who get all het up about swearing... as a teacher I don't swear infront of my pupils, as a performer it can often be essential in causing FULL STOP in the flow, but if you curse throughout a poem or song it loses its effect... and that's the issue here. Swearing for effect. Can be pride involved sometimes, sometimes not. Don't beat yerself up... but be sensitive to the Holy Spirit about it... name-calling is usually wrong. Although Satan is a Father Mucker!!!!

The only reason the word has the power you so desire is because it is considered so rude.

Why don't you replace ****** with grass? "OWCH! That grass nail went through my foot!" (owch >.O) If you go by the idea that the word is only what you mean it to be, then obviously if you say that with enough omphf, it'll be powerful... right?

Wrong, eh? The word only has power through it being a bad word. If it became a normal word, it wouldn't have so much power anymore.

You say God won't care if he knows you don't mean its other meaning. But, you know its meaning, and you say it anyway! :| Whats that telling God?

I think ItsGR82Bsaved put it best when he quoted Col. 3:8-10. In order for the new man to thrive, then the corrupt communication MUST be stopped. The way to do this is focus more on what you can do for God, rather than what God can do for you. If you're not currently doing it, then start.
If you know God in a passionate way, then yielding to Him will cause you to view words differently, which will in turn cause words to proceed out your mouth that WILL EDIFY instead of words that dehumanize.

I find that sticking with your Church's belief's is the best solution. I'm pretty sure your church wouldn't condone swearing. I understand your point that if everyone would swear, then the stigma behind swearing would disappear. I don't believe that this is a "but no one turns off the water when brushing so I won't circumstance." It's not ever right to compromise your standards, or the church's, for "reaching the unchurched" or for a better tomorrow where the stigma of swearing is gone. Discipline was created for good reasons, and that is so everyone can follow along one united front in a body of Christ. Just because you can do everything in Christ, doesn't mean it is good to do. On your way of choosing the lesser of two evils, never turn down the chance to choose neither and choose right.

In Christ,

Hey! Well, I don't have a problem with swearing because I've never really done it, but I do know what you mean. There are times when a certain swear word adds emphasis to something, and you don't mean it in a bad way. But the problem is what it means to other people, I personally don't like it when people around me swear no matter what they meant by it. I also like to write and I think it's quite possible to find replacement words, just be creative!
