I didn't know where else I could ask for advice (I'll start working in full time ministry next year)

After my dad died of cancer last November, my mom had 3 nervous breakdowns within 2 weeks. She is doing a whole lot better now, but she's still taking medication and goes to therapy once a month.

Today died one of her brothers.
I want to support her as good as I can. (though I'm not good in comforting, or listening without giving advice or "just being there doing nothing")
What could I do? What would you do?
Could you give my any advice please?

That is a tough place to be.

Speak to people you are working for so they know about your family commitments so IF you become needed at home in an emergency cover can be sorted.

Keep in contact with your mom even if you are far away
Letters she can hold in her hand are wonderful for older folk. They mean so much and it indictaes yu care enough to have taken the time to write them.

Do little things for her send her small cards and maybe a few flowers. If you say you will call her at a certain time do so ; if you explain that this was a promise given earlier to another person God will understand.

Make sure you speak to her friends and support in the area before you go. Ask them to help you to care for your mom. Could your home church be of help here through visiting her?

And pray for her because you care for her and love her and know that God knows and sees all your mother struggles with. Ask Him to bless her and keep her.

It doesn't matter if ou are good at just being there, do it anyway, that is about all you can so, and Pray, and tell her you are praying for her. Just being there isn't all that hard, you don't even nee t speak, just, sit in the same room, give hugs, maybe cook dinner or take her out to lunch, offer to do the laundry, offer to vaccum or swee up, offer to do anything, that shows you want to be there, and then go do it.
