Ohh...WHAT FUN!!!! Well...I have a cool idea!
NAME:Andromeda Parker
ALIAS:Supernova
GENDER:Female
AGE:217-(immortal unless she is killed in battle, so she looks just 17)
POWERS:Can cause supernovas-(I hope I'm not copying Kookaburra too much) and novas, has power over the stars and space (can make time stand still if she needs to) Doesn't fly, but she can be anywhere, like she will just disappear and be wherever she wants to be, including the air, and space. She can shoot mini supernovas from her eyes, exploding and then imploding wherever they hit, sucking the target/victim into an endless vortex.
DESCRIPT.:(BW...you've seen my profile pic on IM..I look like that) she has curly blonde hair a little past shoulder length, brown eyes, and is 5'11". Her skin and hair is naturally glittery, and she can breathe in outer space just fine, as well as endure extreme heat. She has a big smile, but she has a temper that is like a time bomb, and when you cross her, you'd better watch out. Cause' you're toast.
HISTORY: She lived among the stars with others like her, but they became extinct (no one knows why) She lived, and came to earth, because she liked it's beauty from afar. She made friends with others at the academy, and that is where it starts. Shall we get this Add-on started again?

I'm gonna have another character.

NAME: Kariana Lennard
AGE: 23
GENDER: Female
DESCRIPTION:
janayagallery.jpg

PERSONALITY: Extremely fun to be around. It's hard not to like her. She's very protective of her past, and speaks her mind, not always in a good way. She's protective of her friends, and family.
ABILITIES: Kari(her nickname) has a special snowboard, thing with a sail. http://www.disney.go.com/disneypictures/treasureplanet/trailers/qt750_surfer.html (pic) There's a button on the back, that she presses with her foot to make the sail fold to the side. It's got a jet engine that she uses to fly in the air. The sail enambles her to fly low in rough terain. Hooked to the sail is a cord that she holds onto. Other than that, she has no special powers.
HISTORY: Kari was born to a wealthy family. Her parent's were aressted for spying for the enamy(at the time a fight was going on between certain family's, and her parent's were accused of harboring the enamy, and then giving out information on the quarells.) Kari was given to an orphange, the snowboard her only remembrance of her parent's. She was given to the accadamy at age 17, and has been going since.

It may take a while for the picture of the snowboard thing to come on. Just be patient.

Kariana rose high into the air. She pressed the red button behind her foot, and the sail folded to the side. She closed her eyes and fell back into a backflip, and easily spun in upside down circles, her arms folded close to her body. She spun around in circles, facing upright, the front of her board pointed up. She repeated this cycle twice, before getting close to the ground below her. She popped the sail up again, held onto the cord attached to the sail, and fell backwards, and flew side-ways.
"Ye-ah!" she yelled, as the excitment rushed through her body. She'd been practicing on her board for three years now, and was finally getting good. She went through her routine about five times each day, each time getting better. She stopped the board, and got off. She picked it up, and walked back to the accadamy in time for lunch. The thirll of flying into the air, and doing the flips hadn't left her body yet. She walked into the large caffeteria, and got her lunch. She sat at the edge of a table, and ate.

Hey, don't worry about the supernovas/novas, it's fine. Maybe they should make a fighting duo?? lol.

~~~~~
Aryana dropped into the cafeteria at lunch -- literally. Her broad black wings propelling her through the swinging glass doors, knocking a hat from someone's head.
Instantly, her heels hit the floor and she smiled sheepishly, her mahogony eyes gleaming with the telltale photokinetic light. Her dark skin positively glowed, and the tiny birthmark above her right eye was shaped like a small heart.
She folded her wings carefully, and stepped into the room, picking up the hat and dusting it off before handing it to the owner with a smile, along with a smile.
Most people found it difficult to stay angry at the kind and rather clumsy girl, her eyes full of laughter, her heart full of passion. She was innocent and full of bubbly laughter and delicate jokes. No-one had ever heard her raise her voice or raise a hand in anger.
She could sing like a lark when she wished, or she was silent and pensive, her tone melancholy and a tad shy. She had only once ever hit hard enough to hurt someone, and then she had been out of control in mid-air and accidentally slammed into one of the teachers. She was said to have apologised twenty-six times and gone a bright crimson.
She might have looked fragile and delicate, but something warned that underneath her soft, passive + patient exterior, there was something hard and unrelenting; a steel that would not bend. Behind those dark eyes lurked a hidden strength.
But did she have what it took to be a true superhero? Certainly, she had the manners and loyalty, and courage -- but under that softness, was there a real strength or only weakness? Her fellow students, teachers and closest friends did not know, but one stranger did -- Andreas Haldin, who was doomed to limp the rest of his life, the result of one swung fist at the girl he had considered harmless. And discovered otherwise.
Andromeda stepped through the double door of the academy, startled when they opened themselves. She made her way to the administration office, trying to avoid the curious stares awarded to newcomers. When she got to the office, she was once again startled by automatic doors. She chuckled to herself when she thought of why all the doors opened automatically. Beginning fliers would have a tough time if they didnt....Suddenly, she heard loud whispers. She whirled around, to see someone pointing at her and whispering. She felt the anger burning in her eyes, but she blinked and the sensation went away. She couldn't lose her temper here. She stepped up to the desk and cleared her throat. "Hello, my name is Andromeda Parker, I'm here to register for classes." The secratary handed her a thick stack of papers and Andromeda thanked her as she sat down to fill them out. She was embarassed to answer the question about her age. Most of the people here looked fairly young. She hesitantly wrote 217 yrs old. At least I don't look it..... she thought. She turned in the papers, and was almost automatically given a schedule. She realized why they chose the secratary for her job. She did everything lightning-fast. As she walked through the halls, she noted that a lot of people had wings. But she had something better. She noticed someone showing off with there flying skills, which was not allowed in the halls, and she couldn't help but go over there. The guy looked at her, and challenged her with his eyes. She disappeared, reappearing in the air, hovering. She smirked, and disappeared again, reappearing in her seat in her first class, Weapon Skills. BTW...go here to see what she looks like-http://www.christianforums.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=1307&papass=&sort=1
The youngest of her class and yet one of the more experienced in combat, Aryana watched attentively as the basic skills of self-defense were taught to her class, most of whom could either fly by levitation or winged flight.
Sitting up the back to avoid the more hostile looks, she played absently with one of her feathers before she copied down the notes on the whiteboard.
Aryana heard the door swing open suddenly, and her eyes travelled to the front of the room, where a new girl muttered apologetically to the teacher and turned towards the class.
Firstly, she was struck by the golden beauty of Andromedea, who's hair curled semi-perfectly around her neck in little ringlets, which is far more than any other girl Yana had ever seen. Her own black hair was as straight, stiff and unmanageable as a wooden plank.
Andromendea stepped carefully down the aisle of desks, her eyes downcast as she felt the numerous pairs of eyes on the back of her head, inspecting her, judging her and then the panel of girls along the front row had assessed her and the verdict was an automatic outcast.
The walk of shame, as Aryana called it. She had had to pace it at least three times that day in different classes. There were six periods a day, and this was the last period.
When she had collected her schedule from the front office, the list had read,
All classes are approx. 55 minutes except for early classes. You must be puntual to every class, and a demerit will be awarded for every unexplained late class (with a note or through the teacher Comm. network). Five demerits awards a tuesday afternoon detention (for one hour), and another five results in a Saturday detention for two hours. In and out of school suspensions or expulsion will be given by the Head of School for repeated offenses. Other details are in the back of your school diary.
SCHEDULE for MONDAY, week A:
  • Before school classes (7:10) : N/A
  • Period 1 (8:45) : English
  • Period 2 (9:36) : Biology [1]
    Recess (10:39)
    [*]Period 3 (10:59)
    : Biology [2]
  • Period 4 (11:51) : Art [1]
    Lunch (12:43)
    [*]Period 5 (01:23)
    : Art [2]
  • Period 6 (02:14) : Self Defense
    School ends : 3:05
  • After-school classes (3:15) : Computing Studies
The golden-haired girl was looking at her.
"I -- I'm sorry, could you repeat that?" Being new herself, Aryana smiled nervously up at Andromedea, not looking directly at her eyes, afraid that the other would see the fear and insecurity in her.
"It's all right," Andromedea said, smiling a little. She already liked Yana, despite her apparant clumsiness. "I was wondering if I could sit there." she gestured to the desk next to Yana's, which was in fact the only free one in the room.
Yana blinked. Was she asking her? She hurridly gathered the stray pens that had somehow rolled onto the other desk, and swept them into her pencil-case. "Sure, I mean, you needn't ask . . . ."
The teacher had paused to let the click of pens and murmur of talk die down, and now he continued. "When the assailant grabs both of your arms, you have a few choices to make. The easiest escape maneuvre is to twist your elbow into his or her stomach, and slam dig your heel into his or her shins. This will put him (or her) off guard and you straighten your left arm quickly, twist inside and underneath it, using your knee as a lever between you and the assailant. Don't be afraid to strike hard, with either a closed fist or the side of an open palm. Push out with your knee and if possible, tangle a scarf, purse, jacket or any material around the assailants eyes . . . ."
~~~~~

The bell rang shrilly in the air, and the clatter of lockers suddenly pushed into her thoughts. She found herself the last to leave the room, carefully gathering her books and slipping them into her shoulder bag. She avoided looking at anyone else and slipped out silently, unnoticed by the gaily laughing girls who chattered incoherantly about the trifling happenings of the day.

Aryana again inspected the little sheet of paper in her hand, which read simply Computing Studies, Room G32. She scanned it again, then unfolded a map of the school. Locating the room, she was surprised to find it was underneath the sportsfield.

'Under?' she thought, refolding the sheet and descending a set of water-stained stairs hesitantly. Buses were pulling away now, and the school seemed almost deserted. She rounded a corner and found the way in, a miniature set of stairs that went under a bricked arch into a sort of tunnel.

Once away from the upper world, she heard the humming of a dozen machines, a familiar sound to her highly-sensitive ears. The hall was dim, not dark, and ran under the field quite a distance to an emergency exit at the other end.

A door opened on her left, and she heard voices and the soft hum of at least twenty computers.

Yana stood in the doorway, her wings tucked obediently behind her as a woman hastened towards, her. Probably just out of college, she had the fresh look of someone who loved to teach and was excited about doing it -- a change from the dreary teachers of earlier. She had a warm smile and a bright eye. "You're Aryana, right?"

"Just call me Yana, or my friends call me Yani or Na-na," she responded shyly, in her thick accent.

"I'm Kariana Lennard," came the reply. "Daniel, help Yana to get started, would you?"

Daniel was a short, brisk kid with bleached hair and sharp grey eyes and a skeptical look to him. "What do you know about computers?" he asked quickly.

"Not much."

"All right. Do you know how to hack?"

"No."

"All right, do you know how to create simple programs or systems?"

"No . . . . "

"Can you install a hard drive?"

"No. Am I supposed to?"

"Well . . . do you know anything?"

"Sure, I know word processing and scanning stuff . . . . " she motioned with her hands a little. He frowned.

"There's an empty computer over there," he said, and she took her seat resignedly as he faded into the background, content with finding no answers and telling his friends she was a 'hopeless person with computers'.

Aryana logged in with a little difficulty, then heard someone clear their throat behind her. She swivelled her chair to see a kid about her age with blondish hair with a hint of fibre optics about it, and eyes that constantly changed color. He levitated a dropped pen onto a desk and came over. "You seem to be having trouble," he said, a little puzzled.

"I saw a computer only twice before I was fifteen," Yana replied, baffled with the controls. "I never touched one."

He looked a little grim. "Okay, let me show you the basics."

~~~~~
An hour later, when the class had filed out, she smiled gratefully at Kariana and groaned a little. "Man, I learned more in this lesson than in self-defense?"
Kariana looked seriously at her. "You've done very well, for a beginner. I think you shall catch up within two weeks, with regular classes. Every other day, why don't you stop by? These computers are the high-tech and are specially equipped to help beginners. When you've gotten good enough, we'll send you to the next classroom, which has specialized hard-ware, etc."
Warmed by the faint praise, Yana smiled shyly and felt that she would enjoy Computers most of all of her classes.
After the computer class was done, Kariana walked to the office to get her papers. She walked outside, and down the street when someone called her name.
"Kari!" she turrned and saw her friend Danny McCormic running towards her.
"Where you goin'? We have a date remember?" Kariana smiled a nervous smile.
"Tonight! Oh that's right! Let me run home and freshen' up a bit and you can pick me up around seven."
"Okay. See you then." Danny waved and walked back the way he came. Kariana got on her board and flew home. She changed into a black skirt, and a purple shirt. She brushed her hair, and was ready at seven when Danny arrived.
"I'm here to pick you up." he said with a smile. He walked in the door, and picked her up.
"Danny! Danny, put me down! Danny!" Kariana said laughing. Danny set her down, with a confused look on his face.
"You said to pick you up at seven. What did I do wrong?" Kariana smiled.
"Wise guy." Danny laughed, put his arm out and escorted her to his car. He opened her door to let her in, went around the other side and got in.
They arrived at the resturant, and got their seats.
"How'd your day go?" he asked.
"It was good. The class was full today. I'm amazed at how many students there are in that accadamy Danny. Half of which I've never even seen!"
"Really?"
"Yeah, oh and John said that next year there will be twice as more. Can you believe that? I mean in two years, they'll have to build a bigger accadamy. Oh, and Nancy, oh my word. All of her kids are going to the accadamy this year."
"All fourteen of them?" Danny asked, suprised.
"Uh hu. It's amazing. No, this food is amazing. I can't believe how good this food is."
"I can't believe how long and fast you can talk without taking a breath." Danny said.
"I'm sorry, was I talking that fast?" Danny nodded.
"Well, did you have something you wanted to say?"
"Yeah, I do." Danny said, taking her hand.
"Kari, the moment I met you, five years ago, I haven't felt the same. Your relationship has been the most, treasured out of all my other friendships. It's incredable. Whenever I'm feeling, gloomy or depressed in some way, all I have to do is think of you, and my day seems to go by much easier."
"What are trying to tell me?" Kariana asked, trying to hide her shocked feelings.
"You know I love you, but I decided to show you how much you mean to me."
Danny got up from his seat, knealt down on one knee and pulled out a small black box. He took Kari'a hand, looked into her eyes and whispered,
"Kariana Lennard, will you marry me?" he asked. He opened the box and revealed a small gold band, engraced with small emeralds and diamonds. Kariana gasped, and nearly fell out of her chair. Tears streaming down her face, smiling she said, "Yes, I will marry you."
Natalie walked down the halls of the accadamy, slightly embarassed at how careless she was of her things. She kept her gaze cast down, to where no one could see her face. Despite the fact that she'd been going to the accadamy for almost three years, she still felt out of place.
She wasn't watching where she was going, and accidentally bumbed into someone. Natalie, along with the guy, went tumbling down the stairs. After the painful, and embarassing fall, Natalie felt like crying. She sat up, and grabbed her books.
"Are you okay?" a voice asked.
Natalie lifted her teary eyes, and saw the guy she'd just shoved down the stairs. She nodded, not daring to speak to him after what had just happened.
"You sure?" She nodded again. He kindly helped her up. She smiled her thanks, feeling her cheeks burn bright red with embarassment. She quickly ran back up the stairs and just barely made it to her class.
Andromeda walked down the halls of the academy the next day, her mind elsewhere. Suddenly, she was jolted out of her own little world when she bumped into a handsome boy of about 16. Except he wasn't just walking along the halls minding his own business. He was flying, and rather lopsidedly at that. He got red, and said quietly, "Uh, sorry." Andromeda smiled. "It's okay, I wasn't looking where I was going. I would have uh, dodged you. But my mind was elsewhere. My name's Andromeda. Yours?" She was curious about this guy that appeared from nowhere. "Alex." He said. "Nice to meet you Alex." said Andromeda. Just then the bell rang. "Well...I'd better get to class. See you around!" "Yeah, see you!" Said Alex, walking the other way this time. Andromeda chuckled and continued on her way, keeping an eye out for any more flying attackers.
(Listening to depressing music, inspires depressing posts)
Natalie survived the long boring class of Math. When the bell rang for lunch, Natalie was the first out the door, and down the hall. She walked into the caffeteria, and got her lunch. She sat at the end of a table, staring down at her food. She started to tremble when someone sat down infront of her. She forced herself to look up from her cold food, and was releaved yet nervous when she saw the boy she'd bumped into.
"Hey," he said smiling. Natalie nearly melted at the sound of his voice, along with his smile.
"Hi." she said in a raspy voice. She cleared her voice, laughed a nervous laugh and said, "Hi."
"I just wanted to be sure you were okay. I mean falling down the stairs isn't something that happens every day. At least, not to me."
"Happens to me allt he time. I invented it. It's mine." Natalie joked.
"So, I'm guessing you're okay then?"
"I'm fine." Natalie said smiling.
"I'm Joaquin." he said.
"Natalie."
"I've always wanted to meet a Natalie. And now I have." Joaquin said.
"So tell me, is bumping into people one of your habbits?" he asked.
"No. I've been going her for three years and I still don't feel right. You know?"
"I've been here five years. And I'm shy."
Natalie burst into a roar of laughter.
"What did I say?" Joaquin asked, slightly alarmed at her sudden outburst.
"You? Shy? I don't believe it."
"I wasn't finished. I am shy, but not as much as I used to be. Anyways, you've been here three years? No wonder you looked familliar."
"I looked familliar? Well, there's always a first time for everything."
Natalie and Joaquin talked until their next classes.
Natalie went to her English class, and then school was done.
GGGRRRR!!! Why does the STUPID picture thing work for you, but not for me!?! I think I'll scream now. :mad:AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!:mad: That's better.
Now let me think...what to write about next......
Andromeda went through her classes bored, until she got to the personal help class. Her instructor was a pleasant enough lady by the name of Catherine. She was quite pudgy, but she had a nice face. The lady was obviously eager to get started, because she started the lesson with little more than just exchanging names. "So, obviously you are here at this academy for a reason. I'm here to find out that reason, and to help you discover it's full potential." Said the lady, leaning forward in her chair. Andromeda leaned back, hoping the lady wasn't planning on tumbling into her lap. "Well...you see...I already know the full potential of my powers. I've been using them a lot longer than it looks." Andromeda said, hoping the lady wouldn't ask what she thought she would. She did. Her instructor looked a little annoyed at Andromeda's response, and leaning forward now more than ever, she said in a soft, dangerous voice, "Well young lady, I will have you know that I am 45 years old, and I have been flying since I was three. Now tell me, how old are you?" Andromeda hid a smile with a cough, she couldn't belive anyone of her size could ever even get off the ground. But she kept her thoughts to herself and answered, hesitating a little. "Ma'am, I am two hundred and seventeen years old." The lady looked at her with disbelief. "Don't you get mouthy with me, you little wart!" The lady's face suddenly distorted into that of an awful creature. It looked like a cross between a pig (no wonder) and some sort of awful monster. Andromeda couldn't help it, she was boiling with rage and fear, and her eyes were burning like mad. She relaxed, and two streams of fire shout out of her eyes, with tails like comets. They hit the lady/creature squarely on the forehead, and erupted into several sequential atomic-like explosions. Then they seemed to shrink, but they were actually imploding. Two small vortexes were formed where the explosions had been, eventually forming one larger one. Andromeda watched with grimness as the creature was sucked into them, squealing like a wounded goblin. Once she was gone, there was complete silence in the room. A man walked over, and said breathlessly, "I can't believe it. That was Scar, a monster we have been trying to track down for months. You're a hero." Everyone erupted into cheers, but Andromeda didn't notice. She was too busy crying. Helpless, wrenching sobs.
Kariana went to the accadamy the next day, her mind still on the happening of the night before. Although her first class was a bit roudy, she was to bubbly with excitment to get annoyed. Instead, she let them discuss on what they wanted to talk about, instead of bore them with computers. Her next class was a bit different. They were silent. Kariana couldn't tell if they were petrified by her, or the class before her, but they were silent. When the bell rang, they walked slowly from the class. Her last class was the best. She had the beginners, which were getting better at computers. Some she saw after class, and others were just plain smart. Three had already been transferred to the intermediate class. The beginners were excited to learn about hacking into the security system.
After the classes were over she walked to her small apartment. When she walked up the short flight of stairs, she noticed an oversized box outside her door. She unlocked her door, and took the box inside. She read the note attached to it.
Kari, I saw this and thought of you.
Kariana opened the box and gasped as she carefully pulled out a small white kitten. The kitten's eyes were that of a silvery blue, and it's furr was a pearl white. The male kitten climbed out of her hands, and sat on her shoulder. She got a small bowl, filled it with water and set another bowl next to it. The second was filled with cat food. She named her new kitten companion, Alonzo.
Um, with your pet idea, that's a nice one . . . .
~~~~~

Aryana sat quietly at the desk in her boarding room, feeling mixed feelings about her first day. Experiences that were both old and new to her. There were three types of people at the Academy; those who knew about their powers and liked to show them off; those who knew all of their powers but didn't care to expand them or just too shy to make much of them; and those who knew nothing about their powers or why they were at the academy except that they had been given scholorships.

Aryana was a mixture of the last two -- she didn't like to show or explain her powers, the ones she knew anyway -- and thus she was the outcast from the show-off-your-skills-and-be-popular group. In fact, after talking with a few of its 'members', she scorned their company.

'Ya're the new gal, right?' said one in a thick, exaggerated accent.

'No, I'm just visiting until my uncle comes to take me to Paris,' Aryana had replied sweetly.

'Oh?' the platinum blonde fell for it. 'And who's this uncle of yours?'

'You probably wouldn't know him.'

'Oh, c'mon. I know a lot of people,' the girl had said, flicking a thick lock of bleached hair over her shoulder, smiling a dazzling smile that seemed almost as empty as her head.

'All right, but I'm warning you. His name's William Gates . . . . '

'William? What a charming name -- say, does anyone ever call him "Bill"?'

'Oh, sometimes. But not many people know him,' Yana said gravely.

'Oh, I bet some of my friends might know him.'

As soon as the girl (whos name happened to be Stephanie) related the conversation to her group, half of its members suddenly took to their rooms with stitches from laughing. They were so up in their cloud scorning poor Steph that they didn't realize they probably would have fallen for it, also.

Aryana shook her head and clambered to her feet, her wings almost knocking one of the books off her desk. She narrowly escaped a scolding later by stopping it with a wind current that kept it hovoring until she could shove it back on the desk.

The window was open and beckoning, so she sat on the window seat and wrote in her diary,

Dear Diary,

Today was filled with encouragement, dissapointment and interesting tidbits. I wonder if you understand? My mother's pen strokes have brought you alive, and I hope you will suffer me to write on from where she marked the date and signed,

'I love you, Aryana, never forget that. Write in here when you are happy, discouraged, tired of life or longing for Heaven. I am sorry that things had to be this way, and I encourage you to tell this little book all.'

Yana smiled sadly and closed her eyes, breathing in the soft scent of lilac, her mother's favourite perfume. She paused momentarily, then lowered the pen nib to the paper again and wrote more.

I used to tell my mother my secrets, but now that she is gone, I must confide in you, and keep you under lock and key, so that you will tell no tales of my life and childhood.

Today has been most confusing -- I met and made both friends and enemies, and I know not how to judge whether they will remain that way for the rest of the year.

Friends I have made: Andromeda (I think), Kariana, Liam + Jamie.

Enemies I have unfortunately made: Arche, Silvah, Laurie and Daniel.

Well, maybe Silvah isn't exactly an
enemy, but we are certainly rivals. It strikes me that I have an equal number of friends as rivals. Oh, will I ever be able to be friends with everybody?

You may wonder that I write and speak english so well, as my mother is like the old egyptians, and comes from Cairo, the old section, and my father is from Palestine, and was a messianic Jew.

I had a governess once, a lovely, kind woman who loved me with all her heart. She was from Paris, and well versed in both English and French. That is why I speak Egyptian, English, French and a smatter of Israeli, if that is what it is called.

Mostly slang words picked up around home, and none of them nice, from my father who has since left home and indirectly forced my mother to work hard, with no break. That is why she sent me here -- she no longer had time or the money to school me herself, and the North American Academy for the Gifted offered a full scholorship.

Did I tell you that this place is in Canada? In Alberta. Such lovely names! French is everywhere, and I am in my element among these people, most of them American. The winters will be cold, and there will be snow, I am told.

I have never seen snow, and it will be much change to not have desert all around, and green in summer. How 'cool' it will be!

I hope to improve my english, and no doubt I shall learn much from the continual bantering between my classmates. Simply from their actions and tone, I can usually understand them.

The first class today was English, and we are studying 'Much Ado about Nothing', a charming Shakespear I like not at all. I much prefer the classics -- Pluto, Plutarch and even some of those English high-faluting names . . . Jane Eyre, Little Women by another Montgomery, am I correct? I have no clue, but all these english names are strange when spoken in the Egyptian tongue.

Someone called me a 'charming and thoroughly uninteresting' person today. Oh, marmee, is it so? Am I disagreeable? I seem to be in crisis every moment. First, tripping over my tongue, mixing up names and then finding nothing to talk about that suits others' fancy. I also heard them whispering several times as I passed, and I felt their eyes on my back. I did my best to smile and be joyful, as you told me, but it was difficult. Even such wisdom as yours, Ma, is no use when you are gone.

Kariana is nice, and spoke kindly to me. On one occasion, I looked her way and saw her frowning, as if deep in some thought. I wonder what there is hidden behind that passive, serene mask? My thoughts wander wide and far, as you can tell, diary. Perhaps of something past? Hoping for something in the future?

Andromeda is kind, also. I think I shall call her Drew or Maya, if she will consent. Her name is so long my tongue will trip me a dozen times before I realize I have made a mistake, and by that time the moment is fully passed. She gave me a smile in class, and though I said hardly a dozen words to her, I think she has a kindred spirit. She's a true beauty, with golden curls and glowing.

Oh, Marmee, what am I going to do? Initiation will be day after tomorrow, and I have stage fright! I don't know any of the people here, and they will all be staring at me on that aweful platform, stuttering over a speech I haven't made and looking so attentive or bored I'm sure I'll lose my mind.

I'll leave my entry at that,

--Yana

Aryana tapped the pen thoughtfully against the windowframe, then put aside her book and stepped out of the room, noting that no one had disturbed the other bed in the room. She supposed that whoever took the other half of the dorm room would arrive later. She didn't mind having the room to herself, but she missed having company nearby.

The door clicked softly shut behind her as she stepped down the stairs from the top of the floor, and then out of the Academy into the knot of trees she had adopted as her cozy little corner to study and read out of doors.

To her surprise, she found she wasn't alone. As soon as she entered the little copse, she heard a sort of mixture of yap, bark and yowl before the soft rush of padded feet.

A soft mew, and she looked around curiously, to find herself staring at a baby fox, curled against the dead body of its mother, who had evidently been attacked by a wolf or coyote, which left hurridly when Yana had approached.

The creature's eyes were not opened quite yet, and Yana picked it up tenderly, not quite knowing what type of animal it was, having never seen a fox or touched it.

The baby mewed fiercely, and she took it at a run to her room, where she wrapped it warmly and searched the internet on her laptop on how to care for a baby fox, which she had shown to Andromeda, who instantly was sympathetic and helped her search Google and Metasearch.

"I'll see you live yet!" Yana exclaimed softly, touching the rusty fur and smiling.
