Some Christians believe the Sabbath isn't for Christians.

COMMENT: Sabbath means REST, and the only rest for the Christian is the rest

from our work, as God rested from His work.

Some Christians believe the Christian Sabbath is Saturday.

COMMENT: The Christian Sabbath is neither Saturday nor Sunday.

Some Christians beleive the Christian Sabbath is Sunday.

COMMENT: neither Saturday nor Sunday, since there is no such thing.

What do you think?

COMMENT: I think these so-called Christians should read their Bible, get born again, and get filled with the Holy Spirit, and then they wouldn’t say such unbiblical things.

The Sabbath was from Friday evening at sundown until Saturday evening at sundown. Sunday does not even enter into it, even it was for Christians, which it is not. The Jewish Sabbath was a type and shadow of Christ who was to come, and now Jesus is our Sabbath. It is not a DAY; it is a person.

Not sure how you plan on connecting the ultimate sacrifice of Chirst to the Sabbath. I do not see how the Jewish Sabbath was a shadow of Christ. Can you explain it better? Also, I would tone down the judgement of others you do not even know.

The scriptures tell us to REMEMBER the sabbath and to keep it holy. No where in mitzvot is there a command to worship on any set day of the week. In truth, we should worship God EVERY day of the week.

As for what day of the week should a Christian worship - the Lord's Day has been observed on Sundays from the dawn of the Church. The apostles would go to the Synagogue on Saturday and preach to the Jews, but on Sunday they would gather for the agape feast and the Eucharistic feast.

I try to worship God every day, though it is not always at Church and I am not always successful. However, the Sabbath is not meant to signal which day to worship the Lord, it is a day to rest. We should worship the Lord and give thanks everyday. I still don't see how the Sabbath is replaced by Jesus Christ.

Sunday is the first day of the week and is the day most Christians attend worship services, to remember the death, burial and resurrection of their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through the communion elements.

This is NOT celebrating the Sabbath.........that's all I was trying to point out.

Shalom Spawn,

G-d said it is our Sabbath to rest on the 7th day.

Exo 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Exo 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
Exo 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
Exo 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Deu 5:12 Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee.
Deu 5:13 Six days thou shalt labour, and do all thy work:
Deu 5:14 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou.

G-d Bless,
Dan

REST nothing about worship. For those who are unaware - there are 613 mitzvot (law/commandments) in the OT (see http://www.jewfaq.org/613.htm) no where in those Mitzvot is there a command to worship God on any given day of the week. Further - there is more to Sabbath keeping than resting one day in 7. If you are going to keep the Sabbath as God commanded the Jews in the OT, you must rest 1 day in 7 and rest 1 year in 7 and 1 year in 50 is to be a jubilee were you not only rest, but all debts are forgiven.

In the NT, Christ instituted the Lord’s day - the Day of his resurrection - Sunday. The early church always gathered on Sundays to celebrate the Agape and Eucharistic feasts. These celebrations were communal activities were the saints of God gathered to worship and fellowship. While many of the early Christians did attend Temple or Synagogue on Saturdays, they did so either out of habit or to share the Gospel of Christ. They gathered for worship as believers on Sundays.

God bless

It has been debated for thousands of years on weather he actually rose from the dead on a sunday.
The only thing for sure that we know is that it was three days after Passover began. Nowhere in the Gospels or letters does it say that G-ds day of rest was changed from the seventh to the first day of the week. If man changed that, then it was man. G-d decreed his sabbath and festivals as being forever and his christ never changed the word of G-d.

God Bless,
Dan

Thousands of years??? It may be debated TODAY, but it was accepted in the early church that the 8th day - the LORDS day is the day on which the Lord rose from the dead. So Sayeth Scriptures and other accounts even OLDER than the gospels (letter of Barnabus and the Didache. EVEN if you do not accept these documents to be inspired, you cannot deny the historicity of them.

ACTS 20:7: And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

Corinthians 16:2: Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

Joh 20:19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

Joh 20:1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.

Luk 24:1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.

Mar 16:9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.

Mar 16:2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.

Mat 28:1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

Athanasius - "The sabbath was the end of the first creation, the Lord's day was the beginning of the second, in which he renewed and restored the old in the same way as he prescribed that they should formerly observe the sabbath as a memorial of the end of the first things, so we honor the Lord's day as being the memorial of the new creation" (On Sabbath and Circumcision 3 [A.D. 345]).

We keep the eighth day [Sunday] with joyfulness, the day also on which Jesus rose again from the dead" (Letter of Barnabas 15:6-8 [A.D. 74]).

Christ rose on the third day, which fell on the first day of the weeks of harvest, on which the LAW prescribed that the priest should offer up the sheaf (Clement of Alexandria)

In fulfillment of the commandment according to the Gospel, a person keeps the Lord's Day . . . Glorifying the Lord's resurection in himself. Clement of Alexandria (c 195, E)

But every Lord's day . . . gather yourselves together and break bread, and give thanksgiving after having confessed your transgressions, that your sacrifice may be pure. But let no one that is at variance with his fellow come together with you, until they be reconciled, that your sacrifice may not be profaned" (Didache 14 [A.D. 70]).

The Didascalia - "The apostles further appointed: On the first day of the week let there be service, and the reading of the Holy Scriptures, and the oblation, because on the first day of the week our Lord rose from the place of the dead, and on the first day of the week he arose upon the world, and on the first day of the week he ascended up to heaven, and on the first day of the week he will appear at last with the angels of heaven" (Didascalia 2 [A.D. 225]).

Ignatius of Antioch - "[T]hose who were brought up in the ancient order of things [i.e. Jews] have come to the possession of a new hope, no longer observing the sabbath, but living in the observance of the Lord's day, on which also our life has sprung up again by him and by his death" (Letter to the Magnesians 8 [A.D. 110]).

And on the day called Sunday . . . gather together to one place, and the memoirs of the apostles or the writings of the prophets are read . . .But Sunday is the on which we all hold our common assembly, because it is the first day on which God . . . made the World. And Jesus Christ our Savior rose from the dead that same day. Justin Martyr (c. 160, E)

We celebrate the Lord's Day as the day of joy for on it, He rose again. We have received it as a custom . . . Peter of Alexandria (c. 310)

We devote Sunday to rejoicing for a far different reason than sun worship. Tertullian (c. 197)

Shalom Spawn,
You gave me a bunch of referances where man changed the day of rest, but where does it say that G-d or his Messiah changed that day?
Exo 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Exo 31:16 Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.

Lev 16:31 It shall be a sabbath of rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls, by a statute for ever.

Deu 5:12 Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee.

The Christ recognised that Sabbath.
Mat 24:20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:

Mark 3:4 And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace.

Luke 4:16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

G-d Bless,
Dan

Dan - Nothing in my posts have anything to do with "a day of rest." They relate to the day of Christian WORSHIP.

BTW - Do you keep the full Sabbath or only the parts that are convenient?

The question for Christians today is this:

"Are there certain times that are more holy than others?"

Under the Old Covenant the answer was yes. However, I would argue that under the New Covenant all of time becomes sanctified. Instead of focusing on making a Sabbath or a Sunday holy, we ought to invest in making every moment of every day holy...that is the nature and message of the New Covenant.

God bless you all

Stephen

I agree. As a Christian - with Christ present in your heart, every day and every moment of every day should be kept HOLY and seperated unto God. If you want to keep the sabbath day of rest - that's fine - I just take issue with those that say we should worship on Saturdays -which is found neither in the Motzvot of the OT nor in the NT.

The Sabbath has everything to do with a day of rest.
Every day is a day of worship, but there is only one Sabbath day each week except for festival days that are observed just as you would the Sabbath.

What do you mean by "Do you keep the full Sabbath or only the parts that are convenient?"

Talmud - Mas. Shabbath 119b
It was taught, R. Jose son of R. Judah said: Two ministering angels accompany man on the eve of the Sabbath from the synagogue to his home, one a good [angel] and one an evil [one]. And when he arrives home and finds the lamp burning, the table laid and the couch [bed] covered with a spread, the good angel exclaims, ‘May it be even thus on another Sabbath [too],’ and the evil angel unwillingly responds ‘amen’. But if not,7 the evil angel exclaims, ‘May it be even thus on another Sabbath [tool,’ and the good angel unwillingly responds, ‘amen’.

When the Angels visit my house, it is always my hope that the evil one unwitingly says amen.

Do you understand yourself how to keep the Sabbath, if not and you are interested in learning, I would teach you as time permits as there is a lot to learn.

G-d Bless,
Dan

Ps By the way the Sabbath is a beautiful Day when honored correctly.

The sabbath is more than an observance of one day in seven. It is also the observance of one year in seven.

Shalom,

The site you looked at is a good one. They gave you a starting basic on what a Sabbath

Is.

Point one - You need to know what an Eruv is. That is what gives you what your place of residence is and how far you can travel on foot. A place of residence is more than what you Percieve according to Jewish Law. In the Talmud Bavali Schottenstein Edition there are four books that teach the laws of the Sabbath.

Point two three and four are good examples of what one can do,to honor the Sabbath.

But without teaching, not just the basics and what it says in the Bible, How does one honor the Sabbath. The Jewish people have been doing it for over five thousand years.

It has been handed down from generation to generation since Moses time so that it might be done right. As it is with all things of G-d, one must study and learn from the ones who have honored it for so long, so that we can get it right.

G-d Bless,

Dan
