• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Has anyone here lost a loved one to suicide?

My sister shot herself and died a little over a week later. A day after her passing, my mother intentionally overdosed with pills.

I have so many questions and I'm having a hard time even figuring out where to go from here.
I'm new to this site. I had a brother commit suicide in 1984. He was only 25 years old.

I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my sister to an overdose, too. It was so sudden and unexpected and we thought she had everything to live for at 21. She was going into graduate school and had even typed out the application.

my mother took her life four years ago. she decided that life was too hard, and took the easy way out also. i was very close to my mother, so the situation had a horrible effect on my life. the advice i can offer is that you are still here. the people that you loved decided to be selfish, and leave. whatever the reasons may have been, there is nothing that will ever justify killing yourself.
you mentioned in another thread, that your mother blamed you. that is a cowardly act of blaming someone else. a relationship takes two. no matter what you did or did not do, that is again no excuse for her to take her life. what you can learn from this is to not make the same mistakes that your family made with you with your child.
i did recieve counciling for a little while. this is also something that will help alot. the more you talk about your feeling the better of you will be. please just dont shut yourself off from the world. embrase the loved ones that you still have. i made the mistake of holding a grude towards everyone. i lost alot of people that i truly cared about.
if you ever need to talk, or need a shoulder to cry on. i am here for you. i know how you feel. i am willing to help with whetever you need.
god bless you!!!
your sister in christ,
nicole
