  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I didn't know what forum would be be best for this thread, so if any moderators see the need to move this, please do.

My fiance and I are trying to find a good song for our first dance at our wedding. Just looking for some additional suggestions. Doesn't necessarily have to be God related. The top runners thus far are:

Wedding Song (There is Love) - Gordon Lightfoot
Now and Forever - Richard Marx

I sang this during our wedding ceremony! It is a beautiful song.

For our first dance we played "The Nearness of You." It's an older song from the forties. It was on Norah Jones' first album. There's also a great duet of it with Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong.

I also love "Someone like you" by Van Morrison for a first dance.

Maybe I missed where the OP was asking for specifically Christian songs?

Just because a song isn't by a Christian artist doesn't mean that it is a bad song or going against God. Most of the songs suggested talk about sharing your life with the one you love. I have a feeling that God is going to be shining through the couple - no matter what song they dance to. Lighten up!

To the OP - another nice song is For the Rest of My Life by BeBe Winans.

Oh gosh... :o

Anyways, you also can never go wrong with instrumental stuff... like Kenny G stuff.. very good stuff  cheesy, but good. "Forever in Love" is a really good one of his.

~Katty~

P.S. Congrats by the way!

Actually...I specifically mentioned they did NOT need to be christian. Thanks for all the suggestions. I know some of the songs, not all. I'll definitely need to check out the Geoff Moore song. And yeah...the Lightfoot song is danceable...but it just doesn't seem to fit the mood of a wedding reception...so that's why we're still looking.

We're doing "Love in Any Language" by Sandi Patti at my wedding (my sister used to sing it when she was teenager in front of the church. She refused to sing at my wedding cause she doesn't think her voice will hold out without crying. But I've got someone else to sing it. I love the message. And I love that it reminds me of my sister.)
