I am new to these forums, and am a bit disturbed at how they are functioning.
I am not a particular fan of sticky threads but in this case I feel they are in order.

When I first found this forum, (the whole website)I was confused at its breadth, and sheer volume of discussions.
Is their a place to find out about how the entire forum is constructed, and functions?

And when I stumbled upon this particular division (origins theology)
I was especially confused, now granted I didn't look too deeply at the stickys, but neither did I notice a topic that I felt related to what I see happening.

I assume that this forum was divided into 3 sepreate sections the Theistic evolution section, the Creationist side, and this particular one encompassing plain origins theology.

Might I suggest if it hasnt already been suggested, that Debate between the sides be held exclusively in this forun (origins theology) And that stickys be posted in all 3 forums stating this.
I am all ror discussion, and debate, but I honestly, and sincerely don't believe some of what the others believe, and to be quite honest, I was beginning to feel alone.
It would be nice to be able to go into one side or the other , and not have to sift through endless debates that really need to be seperated and placed in this main forum, Now granted, their are obviously sub divisions within each camp , and I personally think that those sort of debates can stay in each respective side. But I just feel hear broken looking through a few of these post and seeing line after line after line, with absolutely no scriptures, or even edification, at all, based on whose wrong or right. Now granted if they are in this particular forum, So be it, but they really don't belong in the 2 opposing side section, and I have noticed post on both forums that seem, to complain.
It is just heartbreaking to see this, especially considering in many cases it is just a waste of time for all parties involved, and in my opinion is a tactic of the enemy.

I have noticed another board with a policy similar, where they restrict debate on a topic the board believes to a specific thread, (not sure if this one does or not, its so huge)

Btw on a pseudo related side note, their appears to be a great many functions that I havent yet figured out, is there a place I can Go and find a "tutotial" of sorts?

I posted a list of creationist resources in the Creationism forum. If we could expand it to include TE sites and resources I think Erwin and the moderators would be open to providing a sticky for them.

This is a pretty good discussion of the history of the forum and it's founder.

It's hard to navigate this board some times but half the fun is to learn by doing.

As a theological issue Christians are divided into two rather general camps, Creationism and Theistic Evolution. The common forum for Origins Theology is meant to be a place where TEs and Creationists can have debates and discussions. The Creationist and Theistic Evolution sub-forums is meant to be a place where they can talk among themselves.

Might I suggest if it hasnt already been suggested, that Debate between the sides be held exclusively in this forun (origins theology) And that stickys be posted in all 3 forums stating this.

What can I say to that except, Ouch! I try from time to time to guide the discussion to points of Scripture. You have to understand that injecting the Scriptures into these discussions is difficult. I am more then supportive of anyone who is interested in doing expositive studies of the Scriptures in here. I think it would make an important resource if expositive studies were used more often and sincerly agree that this is and I am open to suggestions for improving the situation.

In the top forums when you first come on the boards there are a few forums where you can ask about features like that. I have been coming on here for two years and I'm still finding new features. Learn by doing and if you get stuck feel free to PM me and I will do what I can.

Grace and peace,
Mark

How is this different than what is set up? I believe there are stickys on all three forums. The two subforums are supposed to be "fellowship" forums where folks with similar viewpoints can get together and discuss things without debate.
I am all ror discussion, and debate, but I honestly, and sincerely don't believe some of what the others believe, and to be quite honest, I was beginning to feel alone.
I know that feeling well. The TEs outnumber the YECs greatly in the OT forum (and out in the world, too! ;) ) Sometimes my life gets busy or I just get tired of it, other times I am able to be more active in posting.

That's how the subforums are supposed to work. No, they aren't perfect, but the mods are pretty darn good about helping to keep the subforums to fellowship instead of debate. In terms of complaining, I plead guilty (I started the "tired" thread in the YEC subforum). It was just a honest expression of my feelings in a fellowship context. I guess I don't see any problem with that - if you do, just skip those threads -- there aren't that many of them.

I may well be missing something - how is what you are proposing different than what is trying to be done already?

Thanks, and Lord Bless,
-lee-

I looked again, And It was listed basically as I was suggesting,
I was loking for a sticky titled "Forum Rules" or something similar, but apparently it was located under the respective threads, Creationism, and Tehistic evolution.
However I did NOT notice anything specifying this forum open for debate between the main views, located in this forum .
Where I feel It would be of use to plainly label this forum as the place that all debate between both parties belongs, and not under the sub threads, as this is the first forum I cam to when I started looking around this site.

If newbs debate in the wrong forum, they're usually notified in a rather timely manner by responding posters and possibly even a mod. They are usually not penalized for being new that I know of.
