  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

31-32 Jesus heard about it and spoke up, "Who needs a doctor: the healthy, or the sick? I'm here inviting outsiders, not insiders—an invitation to a changed life, changed inside and out."

i think that sums it up - insiders didn't think they needed Jesus, they were already comfortable [in their sin and life apart from G_d].

outsiders new they needed 'a way' or 'a doctor' to be healed; and Jesus is that Way and told them how. they listened because He told them the truth, AND He live it daily. they didn't argue about washing or eating or sabbath because they knew they were pitiful and lost without Jesus, but the insiders didn't like to be challenged or told that they needed to be healed, no matter how sick or dead they were apart from G_d.
That is true!

I think that we all need to refresh ourselves after helping others....if not we can get to feeling burnt out anf not be able to continue the mission of ministering.

I needed that reminder
Hugs!
Also very true ~ (as Ministering 24/7 for decades ~ will manifest in a less/more disastrous :sick: way)

Thank you so much for those encouraging words, I really appreciate it. I love learning about Jesus, too, and it's great to see what a passion it is with so many people on this forum. I love it. All of the studies here I try to point only toward Jesus, since the bible is all about Him and His love relation to us.

This study today I'm amazed that the 2 chap are all together b/c there's so many foundational things included within. But I'm going to get up on my soapbox today b/c of these pivotal points that I think you can hang every word of the bible on.

The last study was Jesus bringing in the Jubilee to set the captives free. Well, here is were the captivity begins with the bride of Adam being put into satan's slavecamp and Jesus bringing her safely back. We are the bride of Christ. Jesus is the last Adam. He's my hero !!!

ahum *gets out soapbox*

If there was any part of the bible that I would have everyone to understand in their hearts it would be this today. THE WHOLE BIBLE CAN BE HINGED ON IT.

1st off, the trees= relationship vs apart from the creator

2nd, dominion & in His image= Jesus as authority, us changing from glory to glory

3rd the marraige pattern= a masterpiece building up to spiritual perfection

I'll post some more later today,

Oh ya, I think your right about taking time to "soak" and in a way I find this exhausting so Saturdays and Sundays I won't be posting but for you'all please feel free :hug: :wave:

Todays message from "Days of Praise" that fit in so well with our study today

The Way of Cain
November 10, 2006

"Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain" (Proverbs 25:14).

Cain initially was a religious man, evidently proud of his achievements as a "tiller of the ground" which God had "cursed" (Genesis 4:2; 3:17).

He assumed that God would be much impressed with the beautiful basket of his "fruit of the ground" which he presented as an "offering unto the Lord."

Cain became bitterly angry when God "had not respect" to Cain and his offering (Genesis 4:3-5).
"By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain," shedding the blood of an innocent lamb in substitution for his own sin and guilt before God, "by which he obtained witness that he was righteous" (Hebrews 11:4).

Since "faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17), Abel was merely obeying God's Word, but Cain, proud and self-righteous in attitude, was presuming to offer up his own merits in payment for the privilege of coming to God.

This was a "false gift," however, with no meritorious value at all before God, "like clouds and wind without rain."

The apostle Jude warns against any such presumption, especially now that we can freely come to God through His own perfect "Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world" (John 1:29).

"Woe unto them!" says Jude, "for they have gone in the way of Cain . . . clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots" (Jude 11-12).

This severe indictment was lodged against all who, like Cain, are superficially religious, but who, by their self-righteous resentment against God, are "turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ" (Jude 4). We must not boast of our gifts to God, but only of His gift to us.

I'm enjoying your studies, they make you think!

I love that, abby, that's what I need for desktop, I always get them confused. :hug:

The forbidden fruit is to remind me of my limited freedom within the government of God. The actual fall was that of independent action.

Dumb metephore #1: changing from glory to glory or life as petrified wood; We start off as wood (wood in the tabernacle always represents human nature) and change from glory to glory thru the flowing of living water (Divine Life), carrying off all the natural product and adding solid weighty element (essence of the Spirit). Everyday remaining in this heavenly element (fellowship with God) we are changed to living stones (petrified wood) that are being built unto a spiritual house (New Jerusalem) When Solomon built the temple not a sound of workmanship was heard in the area, it was all done elsewhere. For this reason the chosen people must stay in the good land and go thru the process.

The church came out from Jesus as Eve came out of Adam's side. Not created but built up. God is interested only in building His eternal dwelling, petrified wood (stone) by petrified wood (stone) This is the governing vision and God's heart's desire is to dwell among us.

The bride is submissive to her Husband, goes to Him with all her questions, is as mute as a lamb having only the Word of God for her offensive. A betrothal is violated when (spiritual) adultary takes place.

I just found this today, and today what you had to say about Cain and Abel was wonderful! It made it so clear! I'd love to join this scripture study and look forward to Monday!.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Clarity on the pivotal points,, it seems to be needed.. from the seeds of Genesis comes the rest of the growth of the bible till mature fruit is reached..
Jesus, when referring to separating the sheep from the goats and the wheats from the tares, tells of the goats boasting to Him "we did this and that in Your name" "Get away from Me, He said, I don't know you" But yet the sheep said to Him "when did we do this or that?" His judgement on these to two types of people sends one away from His Presence.
He tells us also to not let our right hand know what the left is doing in matters of almsgiving. In this way the Spirit's work, only, (Christ in me) is done whereas anything else is just self-exalting and fit for the fire.
After all, we are, only, the Master's weapon in His Hand in His fight to destroy evil once and for all. But we're not equipted do it on our own. That was proven in the garden, and the same fate awaits all those who try to engage the serpent on his own terms (the world's ways).
Our fight is against the evil powers. The battle really does belong to the Lord and we're priveleged to be the witnesses of what God is doing. Cain chose his own path and Abel died. Jesus died to overcome the evil results of humans independant from God, those who choose the tree of knowledge of good and evil over dependancy on God (The tree of life). But the overcoming is being found in Him.
Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus (the bride, overcomer) unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them (in His power).
2 Cor 5:15 And He died for all that those who live may no
longer live to themselves (not according to sin, satan, the world) but to Him who died for them and has been raised. (17) So then if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation (the bride, overcomer). The old things have passed away; behold, they have become new. (new birth from hearing of the word)
1 Cor 15:45 ...the last Adam became a life-giving Spirit. (The Power we need to overcome the serpent)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I've posted a few times on the pattern God set before us on marraige. The most truthful answer I heard came from a fellow who said " I agree that men and women share the role of bride. But most men don't want to think about it because then they'd have to evaluate what kind of a wife they are" Well, us women aren't fairing too much better and we have social training to be good wives whereas men have had the dubious pleasure of displaying the Bridegroom's role.

First off our Groom is the only One fit for the role. Tender subject it is but satan invented the male myth and the world has been at the feet of the masculine god ever since. Impossible to live up to. Just as now the female myth is perpetuated to bring women down to it's low level.

All of us know what we want from our spouses and what they expect from us. It's a 24-7 job of meeting others (realistic) expectations. And God has those expectations of us as His bride. I often think, when I'm praying for something "Is this a request He, as my Husband would grant"? I have come to realize that He doesn't care about my pettiness. He only cares about His marraige and what's good for His marraige and I need to know when to step down.

So great a mystery.

``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
and the two shall become one..the fulfillment
When a person accepts the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior, believing on Him as the Son of God and personal Redeemer, the One who saves him from his sins, a wonderful event takes place. The Spirit of God enters his very body, there to reside and to guide his new life in Christ. Henceforth he is, whether he senses it or not, "in the Spirit." "Ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His" (Romans 8:9).
The believer's body even becomes a temple in which the Spirit can reign over his life. "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's" (I Corinthians 6:19-20).
In addition to leading us (through the Scriptures which He inspired and through the circumstances which He ordains), "The Spirit beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God" (Romans 8:16). "Hereby know we that we dwell in Him, and He in us, because He hath given us of His Spirit" (I John 4:13).
The indwelling, comforting, leading, witnessing Spirit is not alone, for Jesus promised that, when the Comforter comes to "be in you," then through the Spirit, "I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you" (John 14:17,20). Thus we can "be filled with all the fulness of God" (Ephesians 3:19).
Such a marvelous relationship will surely transform our lives. As our text exhorts us: "If we live in the Spirit" we should certainly "walk in the Spirit." The practical result is then obvious. "Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh" (Galatians 5:16). "days of praise'
BTW I think there's a huge gap between the overcomer vs the new man, both are saved but aren't one and the same IMO
Happy Sunday! Please share your thoughts on these things..God bless!
The Fall of Man
2) What simple positive principles of action, if acted on, would have given Adam and Eve victory over temptation?
3) What is the significance of Gen 3:15?
(a) Satan's method : His trickery and lies can be very subtle and almost seem helpful and we must be very wise and knowledgeable of God's Word to protect ourselves and others from His deceptions. The enemy wants nothing more than to separate us from our God, or seeming to separate us, and what better way to cause that then to cause us to stray from God's word?
(b) the first false steps that led to sin in act, Listening to something that was contradictory to what God had told them to begin with. Had she not listened, she would not have been tempted.
(c) the results of sin? Separation from God.
2) What simple positive principles of action, if acted on, would have given Adam and Eve victory over temptation?
Reflecting on what God had told them, would have clued them in to the fact that what the serpent was saying was contradictory to what they already knew.
3) What is the significance of Gen 3:15? In one way it is speaking of the conflict between Jesus (born of woman, her seed) and the devil. Jesus shall hurt the devil, the devil will be allowed to bruise Jesus, but Jesus shall overcome the devil by rising from the dead, by ascending to Heaven after having been in Hell for us, his agony in the wilderness.
It also is referring to the persecutions instigated by Satan amongst Christians themselves.
Amen, I always wonder why Eve was so confused to begin with when she said "not eat or touch" but I think that shows that as soon as we show the least bit of confusion, satan's in there with his lies. Knowledge is power.. so true... I think satan's greatest weapon is his anonymity.
The serpent is like a thread running thru the bible till in Rev he's sent to the pit for eternity. Jesus gets him on the cross, then he persecutes us but in the end God gives us the complete victory. Yahoo!!
Just as a note of interest,
Notice also, the 3fold fall in comparison to Jesus' 3fold victory in the temptation. Thoughts are first led astray to doubting of God's Word, ..then the flesh was corrupted by sin entering in,.. finally the spirit was dead by loss of function.
Giving Jesus the rightful place protects us b/c the serpent's judgement was to limit him to the earth and to eating dust, leaving the heavenlies off limits (where the spirit dwells). It's possible to be above him by always turning to our spirit to where Christ is, where we're seated with Him in the heavenlies. And that gives us victory in our lives over satan. I look at it like a garden. Pull up the weeds (don't follow after evil thoughts) and cultivate the good thoughts (think on these things) whenever satan comes into the backalley of the mind looking to rough us up. We have friends in high places, we just need to go there in our spirit.;)
Sadly though the world would be
Perfect had not Adam and Eve sinned
In that garden but on the other hand
God wouldn't have been sending a Savior & Lord
That would save us from our sins and from
this might be a little long, but seems to me James fits a lot of this thread very well - here are some excerpts from James , The Message,
interspersed with questions/thoughts of mine.
Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides.
??like when an angel of light tempts you ?
If you don't know what you're doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help.
??what if eve did this ?, or adam ?
The temptation to give in to evil comes from us and only us. We have
no one to blame but the leering, seducing flare-up of our own lust.
Lust gets pregnant, and has a baby: sin! Sin grows up to adulthood,
and becomes a real killer.
??sometimes we can't blame the devil ?
In simple humility, let our gardener, God, landscape you with the
Word, making a salvation-garden of your life.
:) God knows what to do ! YEAH !!! :)
But whoever catches a glimpse of the revealed counsel of God—the
free life!—even out of the corner of his eye, and sticks with it, is no
distracted scatterbrain but a man or woman of action. That person
will find delight and affirmation in the action.
>> We get to do what God wants! WOW! Just ask Him.
Real religion, the kind that passes muster before God the Father, is
this: Reach out to the homeless and loveless in their plight.
?? Did God reeaallly say this ? Why they don't tell us in church?
My dear friends, don't let public opinion influence how you live out
our glorious, Christ-originated faith
?? Today, 2006, does/doesn't that include church opinion ?
Isn't it clear by now that God operates quite differently? He chose the
world's down-and-out as the kingdom's first citizens.
>> i.e. "The last shall be first." ?
Dear friends, do you think you'll get anywhere in this if you learn all
the right words but never do anything?
??Like, "Yes, dad, I'll obey you"; but then don't?
0Do I hear you professing to believe in the one and only God, but
then observe you complacently sitting back as if you had done
something wonderful? That's just great. Demons do that, but what
good does it do them?
>> "The demons believe, and shudder !"...so, believing helps how ?
The very moment you separate body and spirit, you end up with a
corpse. Separate faith and works and you get the same thing: a
corpse.
>> That's clear.
Where do you think all these appalling wars and quarrels come from?
Do you think they just happen? Think again. They come about
because you want your own way, and fight for it deep inside
yourselves. You lust for what you don't have and are willing to kill to
get it. You want what isn't yours and will risk violence to get your
hands on it.
>> God can't be talking about ir__ ? Can He ?
If all you want is your own way, flirting with the world every chance
you get, you end up enemies of God and his way.
>> Did eve flirt with a good looking angel ?
It's common knowledge that "God goes against the willful proud; God
gives grace to the willing humble."
>> Was eve proud of her unsurpassed beauty ? (She was certainly
more beautiful than anyone on earth, in the flesh, for the past couple
thou)
Quit dabbling in sin. Purify your inner life.
?? Who really does this? (hint and answer:friends of God)
To the rich, James inspired by God writes: (I thought of leaving this
out, but God didn't leave the temptation out of Genesis, nor the
many many warnings of a choice - choose a curse, or a blessing (see
the blessing a little farther down) - out of all the books of the Bible.
God put this in James for a reason, to restore those wayward ones
who were willing to be corrected and restored. The ones who weren't
willing, perished.)
James: Hit bottom, and cry your eyes out. The fun and games are
over. Get serious, really serious. Get down on your knees before the
Master; it's the only way you'll get on your feet.
And now I have a word for you who brashly announce, "Today—at the
latest, tomorrow—we're off to such and such a city for the year. We're
going to start a business and make a lot of money."
All such vaunting self-importance is evil.
And a final word to you arrogant rich: Take some lessons in lament.
You'll need buckets for the tears when the crash comes upon you.
Your money is corrupt and your fine clothes stink. Your greedy
luxuries are a cancer in your gut, destroying your life from within.
You thought you were piling up wealth. What you've piled up is
judgment.
All the workers you've exploited and cheated cry out for judgment.
The groans of the workers you used and abused are a roar in the ears
of the Master Avenger. You've looted the earth and lived it up. But all
you'll have to show for it is a fatter than usual corpse. In fact, what
you've done is condemn and murder perfectly good persons, who
stand there and take it.
Then, to the oppressed believers James writes:
Meanwhile, friends, wait patiently for the Master's Arrival.
Take the old prophets as your mentors. They put up with anything,
went through everything, and never once quit, all the time honoring
God.
What a gift life is to those who stay the course!
Make this your common practice: Confess your sins to each other
and pray for each other so that you can live together whole and
healed. [IMPORTANT NOTE: It is written: "to each other", never never
never to the wrong person about whom it is not written]
My dear friends, if you know people who have wandered off from
God's truth, don't write them off. Go after them. Get them back and
you will have rescued precious lives from destruction and prevented
an epidemic of wandering away from God.
Ya that's excellent. James had alot to say about OT ways and was kinda the book of the old to new.
I just wanted to add that altho it's no longer a "the devil made me do it" thing, in the garden Adam, as male and female, didn't contain sin, it came from a source other than God.
??sometimes we can't blame the devil ?
(((I think tho??? that satan got under our skin in the garden,,,he
infused himself into us..???and gave us a duel character within our
flesh...lust of the flesh, eye and pride of life are from our father the
devil..yes,no?/)))) Only by rebirth into a new creation and then by residing in Him until our flesh is renewed we'll always have satan as baggage. :eek: We need to get to that "the 2 (bride and Groom) shall become 1" stage. Leave the devil in Egypt!
:prayer: Study 3 Genesis 4-5
Cain and Abel
From Adam to Noah
1) Trace in chpter 4 the growth of sin, and the evidence of it's power and it's effects.
2) Abel died and Cain lived. But what had able that Cain had not? Cf. Jn. 3:22; Heb. 11:4.
3) Try to picture to yourself the life of Enoch as described in Gen 5:21-24. What new light does Heb 11:5-6 throw upon it?
My take on today's study
1) Trace in chpter 4 the growth of sin, and the evidence of it's power and it's effects.
Seed principal #1=Cain and his clan were the inventors of mostly everything. Cain's claim to fame was being the inventor of religion devoid of God's ways (a bloodless religion) and one of the works of the hands.
2) Abel died and Cain lived. But what had able that Cain had not? Cf. Jn. 3:22; Heb. 11:4.
Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Romans 7:20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
3) Try to picture to yourself the life of Enoch as described in Gen 5:21-24. What new light does Heb 11:5-6 throw upon it?
Seed principal #2= the 3rd generation called upon the name of the Lord, the 7th generation displayed the rapture and escape from death by walking with God.
