  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What stands out for me is that the one who loved little and the one who loved lots were both forgiven.

That applied to Jesus in the way that those who treated Him disrespectively and those who lavished love on Him, He forgave them both.

And whether they believed Him or not He had the power to forgive their sins.

The love of the women (which I see as His bride, the overcomers), resulted in their support of Him with what they had.

To me they were the ones accepting forgiveness as opposed to those who didn't!?!

remember though, the many warning by Jesus to his disciples about

who is not forgiven - including "multitudes" of church goers -

to whom He -JESUS- says "be gone from Me , I never knw you"

on judgment day, too late for change.

being forgiven is not a given - not at all automatic , there are requirements repeated again and again in G_d's Word the Bible.
I always have off-the-wall analogies for helping me to remember some of the truths of the bible, some I get from different studies or who knows where. Like you said "some are not forgiven", it takes humility to be forgiven b/c first you have to accept it. A governor can parden a deathrow inmate so that he can walk threw the door a freeman, but unless he accepts that pardon he remains on deathrow. We are depraved humans sinning against a mighty God, that's our position. Our experience as a freeman is in personal relationship to Him. Some don't want that. And they don't accept it. But shhh, they don't want to hear that...^_^

edit: ya, we need to sing that from the rooftops, amen

:prayer: Study 20 Luke 8:4-21
The Parable of the Sower
A Lamp on a Stand
Jesus' Mother and Brothers

1) Verses 4-15. What kinds of people do the four types of soil represent? What experience do you have of the truth of this parable in yourself and others?

2) Verses 16-21. What do these verses teach of (a) the responsibilites and (b) the priveliges of Jesus' followers?

3) Why did Jesus now adopt the method of teaching by parables (verses 9-10)? Do verses 4 and 18 provide a clue?

I would love some feedback on this today, especially about the 4 types of soil. Cause I gotta warn you where I'm coming from (I don't think anyone is wrong in thinking they're saved)
4 types of soil. 3/4 grew. 1/4 flourished in the environment.
To me that means 1 out of 4 could go to hell. 2 out of 4 are caught up in the world system, while another 1 out of 4 sticks like glue to Christ.
The end result is that the 1/2 in the world who have the seed in miniture aren't going to rule and judge in the millinium while the 1/4 who aren't going to hell will and they will also be the only ones in the rapture. Rev 12 is an example.
Other thoughts on this are more than welcome, of course, but that's my take on that part of today's study. IMO it all comes out in the wash anyway. :)

I know that you are asking about the soils but you also brought up the rapture. Now the rapture is for the bride of Christ. What are the characteristics of a bride? She wants to spend all her time with her groom, she obeys him, wants to please him in all ways, anxiously awaits Him and has an intimate knowledge of Him and also hangs on His words. How many christians today does this describe? I personally believe that the rapture will be a lot smaller than people think and I also believe that many will be surprised at how many from the third world will be there as they have nothing and dare to believe the Word which is why they see miracles a lot. We here in the west are to sophisticated for that and therefore it eludes us many times. Yes, I( think it will be small especially from America.

I think this not only represents 4 types of people, but the 4 different states of the heart.

Let me explain. The sower sows the seed. We know from the Word itself that God's Word is referred to as incorruptible seed. So, God's Word is sown into our hearts, or is it? Does satan come and steal the Word before it ever takes root? Do we resist certain things in the Word because it doesn't jive with our denonminational doctrines? Or do we think it is just too good to believe?

Or maybe our heart is such that we hear the Word and then the pressures of this life choke it out. We hear that God will supply all our needs but the bills are mounting and sickness caused us to lose another day of work. Are we still believing? Or have we let go of that Word, the pressure choking it out?

It is up to me as to what kind of harvest I will see, if any. Will it be 30, 60, or 100?

wow Bill and CindyisHis, great insights!

I think the point were we all come together is that by working out our own salvation in fear and trembling we obtain to the inheritance. I believe we all start off with the same inheritance. A full one. But lose rewards along the way.
Here in Canada I couldn't understand why I wasn't entitled to land and housing as my birthright.I got nothing while aboriginals have many rights.(I'm not complaining...) We're the aboriginals of the kingdom. But like the prodigal we can throw it away till it's 60%, 30% or just coming home to the brother's house.
Worry doesn't add a day but it subtracts alot.
So cares = 30% the world 60% , whatever,eh..we need to trust Jesus

Another analogy, got me going now, is that we weave our tapestry that we'll wear for eternity. It may look a mess on the backside but it looks like a masterpiece from where God sits.

I couldn't agree more, Bill. The NT talks alot about the bride and I'm quite sure that the bride and the overcomer are the same. Revelation 2-3's churches discribe the overcomer which seems to me to be those very much still with their first love (haven't strayed from the truth) and who have done their job of sorting gospel from tradition.(Nicholations/Jezebel/Satan's teachings)
I believe poverty is the cure-all for complacency and are blessed in that. Laodocia was rich but poor in God's sight..:)

Jesus Calms the Storm
The Healing of a Demon-possessed Man

1) Verse 22-25. 'Where is your faith?' In what way was their faith defective? What did they learn from the incident?

2) Verses 26-39. Compare the man's condition before and after he met Jesus. What evidence can you find of the reality of the change? What may we learn from this about Jesus' power to save?

3) Verses 35-39. What caused the different reactions to Jesus of the cured man and his fellow-countrymen? Why did Jesus grant the request of those who wanted to be rid of Him, and refuse that of the man that He had saved?

Just heading out so I'll see ya'all on Monday. Have a great weekend!!!

Here's my take on the questions.

The discipes were sent by Jesus out into the deep to the other side. The storm ceased when they called on His name.
Paul tells us, Hebrews 12:1... let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus...
When Paul was sent to Macadonia he was jailed, but he knew he was sent and he endured the storm's raging with confidence, the result was the church of Philipi.

The evidence of the Garasene's conversion was his desire to follow Jesus. Jesus' power commands demons of the air as well as those legues controlling humans.

His reaction was trust and the countrymen's was fear. They seemed more concerned about finances and so Jesus left them to it, and the cured man to be of service to them.
The kindof fruit that I like!

3) Why did Jesus now adopt the method of teaching by parables (verses 9-10)? Do verses 4 and 18 provide a clue?

Matthew 13:34-35 All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.

Here's an old Yiddish tale

Once upon a time, Truth went about the streets as naked as the day he was born. As a result, no one would let him into their homes. Whenever people caught sight of him, they turned away and fled.

One day when Truth was sadly wandering about, he came upon Parable. Now, Parable was dressed in splendid clothes of beautiful colors. And Parable, seeing Truth, said, "Tell me, neighbor, what makes you look so sad?"

Truth replied bitterly, "Ah, brother, things are bad -- very bad. I'm old -- very old, and no one wants to acknowledge me. No one wants anything to do with me."

Hearing that, Parable said, "People don't run away from you because you're old. I too am old -- very old. But the older I get, the better people like me. I'll tell you a secret: Everyone likes things disguised and prettied up a bit. Let me lend you some splendid clothes like mine, and you'll see that the very people who pushed you aside will invite you into their homes and be glad of your company."

Truth took Parable's advice and put on the borrowed clothes. And from that time on, Truth and Parable have gone hand in hand together and everyone loves them. They make a happy pair.'

Jesus told many truths with parables. We can see that as we read through the gospels. Jesus rarely (maybe even never) began with scripture when he was among commoners. It was only in the synagogue, among the scholars that he did so. Most of the time, Jesus told stories about everyday things in order to bring His strong message in a way that would keep his listeners attention!

4 More studies then on to Genesis !! Yah (digging up the seeds)

:prayer: Study 22 Luke 8:40-56
A Dead Girl and a Sick Woman

1) Verses 43-48. Try to enter into the woman's hopes and fears. What made her touch different from that of the rest of the crowds? Have you any experience or testemony similar to hers?

2) What do these two stories teach us of the impotance and nature of faith, and the need to continue in faith? Cf. Heb 3:14

:tutu: :swoon: too cute!
