  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Were is everyone? This one was hard.. it easier to bounce off what you'all have to say...

It seems to me that thru these passages Jesus demonstated His power over nature, demons, sickness (beyond what science could cure) and death. The woman exercised faith that didn't need Jesus' involvement to produce results while the others were miracles of Jesus' doing.

Hebrews 3:14 We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first.

There was a testimony from france, the country, a few years ago; something like this: A man was very very popular with the people, they would fill the halls to hear him speak and to get him to pray for them, because many many of the sick, perhaps all of them, were healed when he prayed for them. (this is a true story, and not exagerated as far as I know).
The officials(doctors and politicians I guess) did not like people being healed and they passed laws(still in effect as far as I know) making it ILLEGAL TO PRAY FOR SOMEONE TO BE HEALED !!! (in france)

Well, at the next public meeting with a big crowd, the police and other officials were watching close to see if they could arrest him.
He obeyed the law though; he did not lay hands on anyone nor pray for them ....
:) he just told everyone present who wanted to be healed to lay there own hands on themselves (i.e. no one on anyone else)
and pray for themself (this was/is legal, to pray for yourself, just it is or was illegal to pray for someone else to be healed).

Guess what happened :). (Many were healed and no one was arrrested at that time - they didn't break the law france had passed).

That's the gist of it anyway, G-d's healing power could not be thwarted by man's law as long as the people believed and trusted Him. The speaker was a real person, the story a true and real story, but who it was doesn't matter - it is still happening today in different places.
Beware, please, that none of those on tv, not one, are doing this.

Wow, all I could picture was Pharisees in long flowing gowns the whole time I was reading that. I didn't realize that still went on in France. Illegal to pray for others, amazing. Persecution comes in many forms.

God's healing power could not be thwarted by man, but all powerful to the believing person thru prayer. Amen, thanks for that, I'm still shaking my head.

Prayer, believing, meeting God's conditions for His promises are the basics of a personal relationship and I've always thought it's sad that so many depend on others prayer w/o putting forth their own. God wants the relationship more than hearing from another's intercession on behalf of another. But intercession prayer given in areas of discernment I believe open the door for God to act.

Who is there to teach them to pray ? - Scripture says that people don't get what they pray for because they are selfish, seeking their own benefit. And that is how they are tausht to pray in church(every church in tulsa that has been tested anyway, tested according to G_d's Word, a simple test, just as it is written).
So the very place people used to think they could go to for help when they were hurting or broken or seeking G_d, the leaders do not teach them what G_d's Word says - it upsets man's traditions too much.

in france ? .... how bout the usa ? do you have any idea what the federal law in the usa is ?[concerning healing AND scripture] ...and which way it is headed ? (exactly as it is written in Scripture ) ("trust in man is vain"(and brings a curse))

G-d's Plan and Power is not thwarted by man, nor even by the devil;
G-d's set-apart ones in Yahshua shine more brightly each day in a world that loves darkness.
"Beleiving comes from hearing the word of God" vs " you need that no man teach you" Which one?
I believe it's every christian's one and only job to personally sort tradition from what scripture says.

Jesus Sends Out the Twelve
Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand

1) Verses 1-6. A new developement in the work. Picture the 12 itinerating as here discribed. What lessons would they themselves learn, and what would be the impact of those who saw and heard them?

2) Verses 10-17. What light do these verses throw upon the unselfish love of Jesus, and for His concern for both physical and spiritual needs? Putting yourself in the place of the disciples, what would you have learned from the incident?

This kept sticking in my head: Peter 4:11
I looked it up and this is what it says
1 Peter 4:11
If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

studying the scriptures is so much easier than studying human nature and I think that's why we're to keep our eyes focused on Jesus. There are more horror stories and more martyrs today than ever. My heart goes out to them all. Meanwhile I also need to look after what's going on within my gates today, even if it's a little stray that wandered in.

God bless, jeshuaslavejeff, I appreciate your comments. Praise and glory to God.

Recovery of the Jubilee
The disciples were sent out to apply the Kingdom of God among the Israelites. Jesus pronounced the authority of the Jubilee had arrived (reading of the scroll the Israelis would have understood that to mean the Jubilee) and now He spreads the application which announces that the Jubilee is with Him.(setting captives free and restoring the inheritance that was sold)
An abundance of supply so that food etc.supplied and are not lacking in needs. Richly and abundantly supplied by God thru His people.

Jubilee= return of inheritance, release of slaves etc.
We've been released from sin and satan and restored to the enjoyment of God which could only happen thru the death and resurection of Christ, which results in the eternal inheritance.

Here's some great teachings on this book if anyone's interested. I'm listening to it now and typing some of the points. :) One of my fav. teachers.

So we have the Kingdom preached, not just in Word, but in demonstration of authority, which is the signature of God on those sent by Him. "Not by might, not by power, but by my Spirit says the Lord."

:prayer: Study 24 Luke 9:18-36
Peter's Confession of Christ
The Transfiguration

1) Verses 18-27. Trace the connection between the 3 sections, verses 18-20; 21-22; 23-27. What does this teach us concerning (a) the goals that Jesus was out to reach, and (b) the demands He made on those who would follow Him?

2) Verses 18-36. What lessons would the disciples learn from this experience about the real character and mission of Jesus? Can you find any connections with the truths they had been taught the previous week? (verses 20-27)

Notes
1) Verse 23. "take up his cross like a condemned criminal on the way to execution"
2) Verse 30. Moses and Elijah represent the law and the prophets. They were God-given guides whose endorsement of fresh teaching was important. Cf. Mal. 4:4-6

Malachi 4:4-6
4 "Remember the law of my servant Moses, the decrees and laws I gave him at Horeb for all Israel.
5 "See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes. 6 He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse."
I never noticed that "or else" before.

Here we have Jesus setting His face toward Jerusalem to die a prophets death and charging His disciples not to shrink from loyalty to Him. In shining glory He prepares for the exodus to the new promised land, while the 3 disciples witness the emergence of the new covenent from the old, the Kingdom coming in.

The disciples glory is the same as the Master's way of the cross. And they were eyewitnesses that He wasn't a great prophet but the greatest were His servants.

I think that even tho Peter didn't know what he was saying I think he uttered a great truth in tabernacling among the tents of the great shepards (SOSolomon), and to his credit that's where he wanted to be.

Last study on Luke tomorrow and will come back to it in a month. God willing.

I was thinking that I'd post the questions at night b/c it just seems easier..:) ..It's probably most people's morning anyway  I'm missing all my poster buddies and your comments

:prayer: Study 25 Luke 9:37-56
The Healing of a Boy With an Evil Spirit
Who Will Be the Greatest
Samaritan Opposition

1) Verses 37-43. Note the disciples failure, (verse 40). Do you find any significance in the fact this followed a week of new revelations (verses 22-27)? What ought we to learn from this?

2) Verses 43-56. Further failures of the disciples. Why did they find it so hard to understand Jesus' teaching or to practise it? Do you find the same difficulties? How are they overcome? Cf. Phil. 2:3-8

Note. The Analisis shows a new section of the gospel begins at verse 51. But verses 51-56 are included in the study b/c they also record an example of failure on the part of the disciples.

This is taken from the Dake's bible about these passages:
The disciples never did seem to grasp the true mission of Christ, until after it was all over. They couldn't understand the simple fact of the coming sufferings of the Christ, but they were perfect in understanding that there would have to be leadership in the new religion and each wanted to be the leader.
49"Master," said John, "we saw a man driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of us."
50"Do not stop him," Jesus said, "for whoever is not against you is for you."
This is one of the greatest sins in the modern church. Jesus forbids hindering any good work of any person regardless whether or not he belongs to a recognized group of disciples.
The zealous must always be self-controlled and act in knowledge or the work they seek to help will be destroyed (Rom 10:1-4, Jn 16:2) Christianity is not propogated by the sword.

GENESIS

genesis-vi.jpg

:prayer: Genesis Chapter 1-2
The Beginning
Adam and Eve

1) What truths stand out regarding (a) the character of the whole creation, (b) the character of mankind and their relation to God?

2) "And God said" is found 10 times. Cf. Psalm 33:6,9; Heb 11:3. What does this suggest concerning the mode of creation? What further light is provided by Jn. 1:1-3; Col 1:15-17.

3) Why did God make man "male and female"? What pattern for marriage is here divinely ordained? Cf. Mt 19:3-6.

1) Put yourself in the place of Simon. Trace the developement of his attitude to Jesus in the successive phrases of the story. In what ways is he an example to us?

2) Jesus needed fellow workers.
How and where did He find them? What marked out Simon and his colleagues as suitable? What were, for them, the conditions of being used?
