  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Don't resist God's correction and instruction in His Word..Instead, give in to Him..Draw near to Him..Delight yourself in His wisdom, and meditate on it..God bless
Amen Sis

1)The attitude we have toward others will be returned upon our own heads. Instead of condemning others we need to be working on cleaning our own acts. That way we can see clearer and will store good things in our hearts, which will keep us from falling into the same pit as those we would otherwise condemn. Then we can withstand the storms that come to us and reap the benefits of our actions.

2)The stability of a Christian life depends upon producing good fruit by putting Jesus' words into practise.

vs40, if leaders only pretend to live what they preach they should remember that their disciples will be like them and the problem' perpetuated.
The pretender or hypocrites won't get away with it since Jesus tells us to judge them by their fruit.vs 43-45
Jesus' true disciples bring others to become like Him.

Amen

I never could understand why the blind follow the blind. If they're so blind they don't think each person is responsible to find out for themselves then they deserve to fall in a ditch. They should take more care where they walk. That's the problem, people want to blame the leaders for their own mistakes instead of looking after their own salvation. That might sound hard but on judgement day it won't be their leaders standing there so why not look after themselves now. But people are sheep, that are mostly following the wrong shepard.

I appreciate your comments as to your interpretation of Jesus' words in the verses. I suppose sometimes He sounded hard as well. This thread is to help clarify the verses and not to be a debate. :)

The Faith of the Centurion
Jesus Raises a Widow's Son

1) Verses 1-10. What are the characteristics of the centurion's approach to Jesus? What can he teach us about the right attitude in prayer?

2) What do we see in these two stories of the character of Jesus (a) of His appreciation of, and love for, people, and (b) of His unique authority? Cf. Jn 5:24

The people were given bitter herbs when leaving Egypt but Jesus had compassion for the children, like in these verses, but he was hard on the teachers that had a system of personal gain in place of God's Word.

The centurians attitude toward Jesus was so humble and respective, but he could understand (b/c of his high position) that Jesus had a position of power and authority and that He was a commander. To me that would mean that the centurian had insight into the spiritual realm some how. It seemed so much more real to them, that it's really a regression on our part!!

I think it's imperative that we also understand who Jesus is when we come to Him in prayer. That amazed Jesus and He called it faith.

Jesus appreciated the approach of the centurion (a foriegnor) compared to the reception from His own people. But He loved and had compassion on them. He has the unique power to bring us from death to life.

He got so little respect that I think these are amazing verses

:prayer: Study 18 Luke 7:18-35
Jesus and John the Baptist

1) Verses 18-23. What exactly was the doubt in John's mind? Do you find a clue to this perplexity in 3:16-17? What is the significance of Jesus' reply? Cf. Is. 35:5-6, 61:1

2) Verses 24-35. How had the Jews gone wrong in their reaction to John's preaching? What had they failed to see? What does Jesus' estimate of John teach us concerning the greatness of our privilege? Cf. 10:23-24

Note.
Verses 26-28. John, the last and greatest of the prophets of the "old covenent", marks the beginning of the new and better era, "the kingdom of God"

These verses say to me that the people were still noncommittal. And that God's messengers came in all different packages but no matter how brightly wrapped or sparsely, they were still rejected in the sence that altho fascinated by the flute and the funeral, they still wouldn't dance or weep.

re: concerning 'our privilege'

note what marks Jesus' disciples to whom He said this:
Luke 14:33So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple..

and
Matthew 19:27Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore?

and numerous other Scriptures all in context and in line with all of G_d's Word.

Amen, yeshuaslavejeff, His disciples did forsake all else. Seek ye first the Kingdom of God. When Jesus was at the well He said to her that Israel worshipped what they knew and the Samaritans what they didn't know. Disciples from the NT on, are blessed in knowing Him and can worship the Father in spirit and truth. We need to know what we worship.. I think that came out in the last study too 7:35But wisdom is proved right by all her children." Thank you for the great comments!

Jesus Anointed by a Sinful Woman

1) Compare the Pharisee's attitude to to Jesus with that of the woman. How did Jesus answer His criticisms of verse 19? How did the parables of verses 41-42 apply to Him?

2) What made the woman act as she did? Cf. 8:2-3 [I]"]Have you similar incentive? How can it be expressed?

Note
7:47. "For" here indicates the evidence rather than the cause of her forgiveness
