Study looked at internet browsing history, violent crimes per capita, alcohol use, gambling and more

A personal finance company recently set out to determine the most "sinful" states in 2025 — and the results show a mix of red and blue states.

In a study published on Feb. 24, WalletHub wrote that Republicans and Democrats "may like to point to one another as the source of all that is wrong with the U.S., but the truth is that each of the 50 states has its own virtues and vices."

Analysts compared 54 key indicators of immoral behavior across all 50 states, including internet browsing history, violent crimes per capita, alcohol use and gambling.

Here's the list of least-to-most sinful states, according to WalletHub.

Florida being #3 doesn't surprise me.

DeSantis has sold Florida as being a great place to raise a family because of a few high profile stand against certain hot-button cultural issues, but that glosses over the darker reality: Florida is a place of extremes- draconian laws and shallow, spectacular pietistic religion goes hand in hand with a culture that's full of disjointed and broken communities and people. When you have so much sin and brokenness, it's easier to sell people on simplistic narratives of redemption that glosses over deeper social problems. It's almost like one hand washing the other.

To be honest, I thought we (Florida) would be higher.
We have "Florida Man" after all..

Have you see the indie film, The Florida Project? It's the most authentic film I've seen in decades. Squalor and depravity right in the back yard of the so-called Magic Kingdom.

I have not, but I just read the plot synopsis of it.

I help with a ministry that serves the at-risk and homeless in FL. Sadly the overall plot points were pretty accurate and not unfamiliar.

Looks to me like homogenous states fared far better than states with lots of diversity. There are 54 or so indicators, but I don't see their total list. Nevada is possible far less sinful because a "state" in my mind when you are comparing Blue versus red, means citizens that can vote. Nevada is an outlier because they have so many tourists gambling and committing sins. I wonder too if they assigned equal weights to each of the 54 indicators. That would mean divorces would be equally weighted with gluttony. Some sins of course too are not measured in data.

In one article there is discussion of what to do about the sin problems.

I would say a big part would be learning how to relate at home >

"without complaining and disputing" (in Philippians 2:14).

Good example helps >

"nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock." (1 Peter 5:3)

Forgiveness helps >

"'And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.'" (Mark 11:25)

"Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do." (in Luke 23:34)

Nevada is where the devil lives and the angels are in Idaho. Who'd have thunk it. Las Vegas needs to build some churches next to its cathedrals of depravity.

idk. Maryland’s way down in 27 and we’re about as heterogeneous as you can get.

You’re not missing anything unless you’re into overpriced theme parks, bad drivers, and humidity.

Yes, you would have to run the statistics with the race data to see what might correlate. On the good side, I don't think folks from Maryland are that known for being gluttons.
