Student debt

The only thing is, shes broke, but she has the lastest iphone and that cost about $1500 which she bought outright.
Plus shes on a plan.

My phone was just $25 and its on prepay.

I dont understand how she can live beyond her means and not realise once you graduate theres no guarantee a job in your field will be available unless you trained specifically and got head hunted or something.

The bible talks about counting the cost. Well the cost of a house is outrageous, you wont pay it off until you die (thats why its called a mortgage) and higher education is just that...out of reach for most people.

And another thing that concerns me about this friend is she told me her parents were going to give her or buy her a car because they took pity on her. I said yea thats great.

But a couple of weeks later she was depending on me for a ride so i asked her what happened with the car? And she said her parents were just going to pay half and she had to pay the rest. With no job.

Im scratching my head over that one. She told me this after she quit her job.
I dont know her parents that well but i think theres some issues there.

she rang me this morning about applying for a job where my mum works(and I've worked before).
sometimes, I do feel she is kinda using me for contacts as I helped her obtain a job last time (which she quit to do a full time one, and then quit that as well) but thats just the way it seems to be with this friend.

One crazy thing she said to me was thinking about doing ANOTHER masters degree the same one I did. I advised her not to because if I cannot find a full time paid work with mine what chance has she got, plus she would be in even deeper debt. And its not christian to keep on owing people.

I think with some people, they are just not aware that a debt needs to be repaid unless it is forgiven. You can't just live on credit forever.

am not sure how I can make her understand this.
I think because she is catholic and their belief system is kind of works salvation they have this mentality that you earn merit points or whatever. And God isn't happy unless you do something for Him.
