  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What should a person do if they are fixated on a topic and cannot get satisfaction?
Is this a physical problem or a spiritual one, that is what I cannot decide.
I know we are made up of both spirit and flesh so what ever side we give the upper hand to will win.
Thoughts?

Define physical problem? Spiritual problems you can pray and ask God for help and read scriptures and pray and meditate on that as well.

Can't discribe one that another has, except to notice an unusual urge to bring up faults they think others have. I believe the scriptures teach us to confess our own faults, one to another, instead of those of others to excess.
Example would be, why I disagree with (fill in the religion) instead of starting a number of threads on every issue they are curious about.

You are both right and wrong. You are right because issues must be addressed equally, not just obsessively focusing on one thing.

You are wrong because well, we really must expose these things John 7:7 and John 14:12 together. But you are right, there comes a point that too much is too much if it takes up the other (more important) things.

Problems exist in all doctrines of organized religions, not just one (insert religion here).

I'm NOT religious so I don't have as much issues of religion. I only believe what I saw, heard, experienced, and my heart and mind agreed with. I only quote from the Bible or other religious texts, verses which agree with the throve of treasure I have found. It does not fail even under the scrutiny of science which religions have failed over and over throughout history.

Insightful post, thanks timewerx. Especially liked the verse about greater works, for they have been
put down by so many. It must be part mis-understanding, mixed with rebellion.
And yes even science will prove out the Word. We know this because 1 Tim 6: 20-21, speaks of a false so we know by that, that there is a true, which God rules over. I know He desires us to walk in the power to manifest here on earth, yet we get so bogged down in carnal thoughts, (stuck), that we do not reach higher.

If you are seeking advice for yourself I would counsel, as I would in all matters, to take the problem to the Lord. However, having read the rest of the posts I can see that this is not about you. In this situation I think it is we that need to pray for those who are stuck. Only He can grant us satisfaction.

It's all too easy for many to loose sight of the simple message of love and tolerance that Christ brings, and to supplant that with the trappings and traditions of man made organizations.
Some seem to ignore the simplicity of John 3:16,
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life"
and extrapolate that into "whosoever believeth in the doctrine(s) of men".
There are many mansions in my Fathers kingdom and it does not serve Him to throw rocks at any of them. Who among us knows the will of Christ well enough to judge in His behalf? Who among us has the perfection to divide the Shepherds flock in His stead?

You picked up on that very well Ran, yes prayer for those who are stuck is the best blessing to give. Giving place for discord doesnt help anything.
And yes Meta Tron, would that our mutual love for Jesus Christ keep us all maturing, so that we would never get stuck.

Scripture extols wisdom. Some discussions are small minded and cantankerous, not edifying. Wisdom enables meaningful, gracious debate.

There is a very significant difference between a merely doctrinal debate where 'the truth' takes precedence over a living relationship with Jesus. I have had wonderful times of worship, prayer, evangelism and friendship where our common life in Christ transcends our doctrinal differences.

Well, I don't know why I came here tonight
I got the feeling that something ain't right
I'm so scared in case I fall off my chair
And I'm wondering how I'll get down the stairs
Clowns to left of me
Jokers to the right
Here I am, stuck in the middle with you
Yes, I'm stuck in the middle with you
And I'm wondering what it is I should do
It's so hard to keep this smile from my face
Losing control, yeah I'm all over the place
Clowns to left of me
Jokers to the right
Here I am, stuck in the middle with you
Well, you started off with nothing
And you're proud that you're a self-made man
And your family all come calling
Slap you on the back and say:
"Please!"
"Please!"
Trying to make some sense of it all
But I can see it makes no sense at all
Is it cool to go to sleep on the floor?
I don't think that I can take any more
Clowns to left of me
Jokers to the right
Here I am, stuck in the middle with you
Well, you started off with nothing
And you're proud that you're a self-made man
And your family all come calling
Slap you on the back and say:
"Please!"
"Please!"
Well, I don't know why I came here tonight
I got the feeling that something ain't right
I'm so scared in case I fall off my chair
And I'm wondering how I'll get down the stairs
Clowns to left of me
Jokers to the right
Here I am, stuck in the middle with you
Yes I'm stuck in the middle with you
Stuck in the middle with you
Here I am, stuck in the middle with you...

And we wonder why some like soulgazer leave us ....... oh my!

Being stuck on a scripture is just temporary till we get a revelation.
Being stuck on a topic might be an entirely different.
What sticks out as a most interesting question to be stuck on?
Easy. The one thing that everyone here has in common. By what ever name you identify the Son of the Father.

Remember the basics. I think the Bible is a big set of books, but it is actually simple in basic import, for example. Christ summarized everything.

But in the meantime look at the "house" of Christianity, all divided, and much of that was losing focus of the basic truth, while wrangling issues to the point of 50,000 "versions" of Christianity called religions.

Yet it is ONE faith supposedly. (Rev14:12) So when it gets perplexing, just step back and keep focus on the basics; review them. The more one loses focus the more they drift, the more we stay focused on Christ reality (Matt14:30-31), the more based we are, all reality will in time again converge into Christ.

Always, imo, keep on guard to stay focused on God through Christ and do not let humans or religious "middle men" get in the way.

The house of Christianity is a mess and divided, I just call it for what it is imo. The opposer is UNITED, and will take advantage of this division soon, imo. It has not formed for no reason, imo.

BUT there are awake individuals. It fell asleep, imo, buy over analysis and lack of discipline and distraction. So staying focused takes a goal, monitoring, and regularity by practice to become enduring. I think actually reading the Bible is the key exercise with prayer that sometimes gets neglected by other routines.

Don't "give way" to doubt.

Matthew 14:31

Instantly Jesus stretched out His hand and caught hold of him, saying to him, "O little faith, why did you doubt?"

Brilliantly spoken...stunningly simple.
