I liked them when they first started out.

I remember when Yellow and Black Attack came out. I was very impressed with the quality of their music. They didn't sound like everybody else at the time.

Soldiers Under Command was ok - but they started playing some junky ballads.

To Hell With The Devil had a few GREAT songs, and a few ROTTEN songs, along with a few mediocre songs.

In God We Trust just plain old stunk!

Against The Law was pretty good. They tried to create their own sound and break out of the "glam" rock mold.

From the reviews I've read of their new one, I don't think I'll like it.

I definitely like the old Stryper.

Its funny/interestin that he didn't that he didn't like In God We Trust. I really enjoyed that one. But then I enjoyed all of them. But that one was probably 3rd on my list.

Way Cool!!! :) :) :)

Old Stryper - went to a few concerts back in the day.

As for the new one? Haven't picked it up yet - from the first song I heard....not sure I will like it. But - I have all their old CD's - might as well keep the collection up to date.

I've not heard any of their new CD so i can't say if i prefer their newer stuff to the old.

As for their older stuff, some was very good and some was just so-so.

I've seen them 3 times in concert and somewhere i have a picture of me and 2 friends with Robert Sweet (back in '85) !

I like old Stryper. I saw their reunion tour 2 years ago (or was it last year?), and I was smiling during the whole show.

I heard one track off their new album, it pretty much sounded like the same stuff you hear on the radio by 'hard rock' bands, with a little Stryper flavor. I wasn't too impressed.

Hmm...no girls posting in here!

Well, I had Stryper's first 4 albums...I say had because they were on cassette and I played them so much that they all warped! I too went to see them in concert...couldn't hear for a week...but it was worth it. Haven't listened to their new stuff...but I'll probably like it...if only for old times sake! ;)

Here are a few reviews of "Reborn":

Big 3 Records
Rating: 9 Out Of 10 - Reviewed by Bam-Bam

I know what you’re thinking if you aren’t normally a fan of this band; ‘Oh, here come the Yellow & Black Attack guys with their bumble-bee suits and their cheesy, melodic rock antics’…right? Well, you’re 100% WRONG!!! Stryper are back and this time they sound raw, edgy, and in your face! Although a couple of the songs are sweet and sincere ballads, there’s nothing wrong with this record except for some of the songs having very abrupt endings that come out of nowhere. This is a very solid and rocking album, no matter what your previous thoughts might lead you to believe. The recording is great, with a drum sound that resurrects that classic John Bonham feel, i.e.-a wide open snare and booming bass drum. In addition, Robert’s playing is very tasteful and so groove oriented that I have a renewed respect for him. As far as vocals, because let’s face it, that’s where the Stryper sound is really defined, you get Michael wailing it out as if he hasn’t missed a step from the Against The Law days. I’d even venture to say that the guy has gotten even better over the years. Reborn is a perfect album for this band to make fans of their haters because it’s very different from anything they’ve done previously and it rocks on so many different levels. Sure, there’s one or two tunes that are uplifting praises to the G-man, but unless you’re just an out-and-out Satanist, this is not a problem. I love the whole album, but my favorite tracks are “Open Your Eyes”, “Make You Mine”, “Live Again”, and the title track. In stores on August 16th, this one comes Highly Recommended, although I do wish they’d rework some of those ‘cut-off’ song endings that take you by complete surprise.

Standout Tracks- Reborn, Passion, Live Again

Jesus Christ...Well, maybe I should put it differently... Holy Moses, the new CD from Christian-rockers Stryper is the comeback of all comeback CD’s! This release clocks in at less than 39 minutes, but there is no filler, all songs are equally impressive. Stryper’s sound has matured quite a bit since their last studio release, 1990’s “Against the Law.” They still have the bold, Christian lyrics, but musically Stryper is more sophisticated than ever before. There are hints of Industrial, Nu-Metal and Alternative permeating through out the CD. Tracy Ferris, who replaced original bassist Tim Gaines, adds some much needed muscle to the rhythm section. This version of Stryper is the strongest so far.

‘Reborn’ kicks off with the melodic rocker “Open Your Eyes.” This song features some stellar hard hitting drum playing by Robert Sweet. Following is the title track, “Reborn.” This song is Stryper at their all-time absolute best. The music is loud and aggressive, the lyrics are profound and reflective. This track sets the tone for the remainder of the CD. “When Did I See You Cry” and “Make You Mine” follow with the same heartfelt intensity.
Midway through the CD, the pace slows down a bit with the power ballad “Passion.” This song is destined to be a single. It begins with an acoustic guitar and elegant vocal melodies, it then becomes a fiery, hard rocking, spiritually awakening and moving song. “Live Again” is a poignant and compelling song about a man’s plea to God to “cut the cancer out” and let him change his life and live again. The last track on the CD, “IGWT” is a remake of the band’s hit song “In God We Trust.” This version is much heavier than the original and has an interesting modern/industrial feel to it.

Before I conclude, it would be sinful not to mention that songwriter/singer/guitarist Michael Sweet shines like a diamond on this release. He is clearly one of the most driven, fervent and vocally powerful singers in rock. Lyrically, he is clever and clearly committed to his Christian beliefs and lifestyle, and he manages to get his message across without sounding overly sanctimonious. It is difficult not to get caught up in his lyrics. Also, guitar wise, Michael and Oz Fox really stand out on this CD with their screaming leads and memorable riffs. Together they are quite the killer guitar duo and this CD should finally give them the recognition and respect that they deserve.

In summary, Stryper is resurrected. The band is stronger, more experimental and more musically powerful than ever before. ‘Reborn’ is simply a brilliant hard rocking CD. With this release, Stryper will regain their status of being the most relevant Christian rock band in music. If my church rocked like this CD, I would have no trouble being there every Sunday.

I just picked up the new Stryper album a day after it was released. It is good and solid, but not quite up to the same dynamic level as their old stuff; and I've got just about every Stryper album in my CD collection to compare it to. It was inspiring enough, however, that I felt twenty years younger --for at least a day --as I contemplated the past entrance of Stryper's music into my life, which was about the same time as when I became a Christian.

I hope that they stick around for at least two more albums. Since they've been out of the scene for a while, I liken this 'Reborn' tour to their 'Yellow and Black Attack' days, right before they began to hit it big.

But whatever happens with their decisions to pursue or not to pursue their creative interests...this album gives me at least a feeling of closure and, at the same time, further inspiration in Christ.

Dave
